4xe and e-Hybrid, the keys to the electrification of Jeep that culminates with the arrival of the Avenger

Before the Avenger arrives, we take a look at Jeep’s other electrified options

Jeep has set itself one goal: to become the most sustainable SUV manufacturer on the market. It does so with a firm commitment to electrification, a path that began in 2020 with the launch of the first plug-in hybrid versions (4xe) and will culminate in 2028 when it hopes to be a one hundred percent electric brand.

In between, it has several dates marked in red on the calendar, the closest and most expected being the launch of the Avenger, the first electric Jeep that will go on sale in 2023. The Avenger will be followed by the Wagoneer S (whose trade name is yet to come). determine), the Recon and a fourth model to be announced later.

Jeep 4xe range, the plug-in hybrid

4xe is the designation that all Jeep plug-in hybrids carry. As of today, there are four models that are part of this family: the Compass, the Renegade, and the Grand Cherokee and the Wrangler.

The Jeep Compass and the Jeep Renegade are identical under the hood. On the front axle they mount a gasoline engine; in the rear, the electrical part; between the two, an 11.4 kW battery that is recharged connected to a plug socket and also with the brakes and allows them to travel up to 50 km in zero emission mode. The power when both engines work together ranges from 190 to 240 hp.

For those looking for the Jeep adventurous spirit but in an electrified version, the 4xe range has two options: the legendary Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Grand Cherokee.

In this case, the electric motor and the combustion engine work together to maintain the demanding 4×4 traction; so much so that the Grand Cherokee has just been named the most sustainable 4×4 by 2023. “Electrification for Jeep is not a matter of meeting standards, it is a way of making our models more capable,” says Manuel Pérez Casado, director Jeep Marketing.

e-Hybrid range, with ECO label

The models in the 4xe range have the DGT Zero label, while the e-Hybrid achieves the ECO environmental classification.

Both the Jeep Compass and the Renegade are available with this mild hybrid version that uses a battery to support the combustion engine (130 hp) to thus reduce fuel consumption and the level of emissions.

And now the electric ones arrive

The road to the electrification of Jeep reaches the final stretch with the launch of the Avenger. This is a compact SUV of just over four meters prepared to travel up to 400 km with each recharge (550 km in urban circulation) and to recover 30 km in 3 minutes or up to 80% of the charge in 24 minutes.

The Jeep Avenger is designed for the new Jeepers, for those who are convinced that caring for the environment is not incompatible with driving or adventure. It is electric, versatile and very practical, with a 380-liter trunk (with electric gate) to which another 34 liters of cargo space are added throughout the cabin.

It is also highly technological, with level 2 autonomous driving; and very customizable. In addition to the two-tone bodywork, it can be customized with vinyl on the roof, hood and even on the seven squares on the grill that are reminiscent of the mythical seven bars of Jeep.

Only in Spain and Italy will the Avenger have gasoline versions with manual gearbox.
