Alfa Romeo could present a new supercar in 2023

Alfa Romeo’s model range does not stop believing and after the access Alfa Romeo Tonale (which joins the Giulia and Stelvio), the Italian firm points to a very different direction with its next model: a supercar that could see the light as early as March 2023.

Jean-Philippe Imparato, head of Alfa Romeo, has declared this to his colleagues at Autocar.

“When you visit the Arese museum, you see a lot of ideas from our past. Yes, we are working on something ‘for a few’ for Alfa Romeo”, he commented, making it clear that the model will be a limited production edition.

In addition, it will not be part of the brand’s standard range, but will run in parallel, making it clear that it will not be a shared vehicle with Stellantis, but rather that it will be a purebred Alfa Romeo.

“It’s 1969 [con el Spider] since the last time Alfa Romeo was stamped on a chassis,” he said, noting that it would be “a great thing” to do it again and pointing out that “it could be iconic, super sexy and recognizable as an Alfa Romeo at first glance”. In addition, it would not be an exclusive model for the track, it would also be usable on a day-to-day basis.

When asked when this new project could come to light, he did not go into details: “It is not done yet, but it is ongoing. Positioning is in progress. We have so many fans asking for something special.”

The reality is that these statements leave more unknowns in the air than the questions he has answered. To begin with, at least it should be a supercar, but the Italian firm could even go a step further and create a hypercar.

Another interesting question is what kind of mechanics you will use. The brand has already begun its journey in electrification, but will it be introduced in the sports car or will it remain faithful to combustion? What’s more, could it even be a fully electric model?
