The Audi A6 Avant e-tron concept is a preview of a 100% electric family sedan that integrates a fast charging capacity at 270 kW of power.

Audi continues to work on the electrification of its product portfolio by showing us exclusive previews of what will be a production vehicle in the near future. Coinciding with its 2022 Annual Press Conference, the firm with the four rings has unveiled another world first, the Audi A6 Avant e-tron concept.

This prototype is an Avant-bodied version of the Audi A6 e-tron concept that the company unveiled almost a year ago at the 2021 Shanghai Motor Show. The A6 Avant e-tron shares the design with the electric sedan, but adds the exclusivity and versatility of an Avant family bodywork characteristic of Audi, as well as some interesting novelties.

Based on the company’s dedicated Premium Electric Platform (PPE), the A6 Avant e-tron concept is presented as a family saloon with 4.96 meters in length, 1.96 meters in width and 1.44 meters in height, which places it directly within the E segment next to the current Audi A6 with which it shares a name.

At the design level, the Audi concept car features a front with a faired Singleframe grille, and an extremely aggressive and aerodynamically optimized bumper with the e-tron inscription at the bottom. Above, two sharp headlamps with state-of-the-art digital Matrix LED technology accompany a long, flat bonnet.

From the profile, the A6 e-tron concept is an Avant in all its essence. The sloped front window, the flat and elongated roof, the three side windows and its almost 5 meters in length create a muscular silhouette. There are also some prototypical mirrors, no door handles and a molding at the bottom that separates the doors from the sills.

Finally, the rear features a spoiler that continues the roofline, a slightly slanted rear window and an optical group with digital OLED technology joined in the center by the four Audi rings finished in red. The tailgate is quite small and the bumper occupies most of the rear section along with a diffuser reminiscent of Audi Sport models.

Audi designers worked to make the exterior of the A6 Avant e-tron concept aerodynamic. In this way, the prototype achieves a coefficient of 0.22, only 0.02 units higher than the saloon version presented last year. Specific 22-inch wheels have also been designed in a multi-spoke style.

Special mention deserves the lighting section of the Audi A6 Avant e-tron concept. Thanks to the digital Matrix LED technology of the headlights, they can project images in front of a wall, while the digital OLED taillights can create “virtually unlimited” light signatures, according to the manufacturer.

Engine, autonomy and recharge times

At the propulsion level, the PPE platform allows the A6 Avant e-tron to integrate a battery module with a flat design between the two axles with a capacity of around 100 kWh. This unit powers two electric motors located one on each axle to create an on-demand quattro all-wheel drive setup.

The wheels are connected to the chassis via an optimized five-link suspension and a multi-link rear axle. In addition, the concept has air suspension and adaptive damping.

The drive system offers a total output of 350 kW (475 hp) and a maximum torque of 800 Nm. The autonomy is “more than 700 kilometers”, a figure that will depend on the selected propulsion system and power. And in terms of performance, the prototype can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than four seconds in its most performance configuration.

Models based on the PPE platform are designed to work with 800-volt technology, just like the Audi e-tron GT, so the A6 Avant e-tron concept can also charge up to 270 kW at stations. fast charging. In just 10 minutes you can add 300 km of autonomy and in less than 25 minutes go from 5% to 80% of the charge level.

Both the Audi A6 e-tron concept and its family version, the Audi A6 Avant e-tron concept, are a preview of what the new generation of the Audi A6 will offer, as well as a preview of the potential of the electric vehicle PPE platform of the German brand.
