The Toyota GR86 is the latest breed of an era. A sports car with all the ingredients to fully enjoy the purest and most analog driving, in a world dominated by digital.
But hurry, because this car will no longer be manufactured, due to the anti-pollution regulations of the different countries and because Toyota itself announced the production of only 4,400 units for the whole world that will be sold between 2023 and 2024.
Cars you should buy before they expire, Toyota GR86
The production of the GR86 will be quite short, as it will leave the assembly line in 2024. The reason is that its engine will not comply with emission regulations and, consequently, it will not be able to be marketed.
The Japanese sports car will be priced in Spain at 32,900 euros and will only be sold with the access finish, called RZ, unlike other European countries, where the most equipped version will arrive.
This is due to two reasons, mainly: the first is that Toyota did not want to offer an old-school sports car at a skyrocketing price, so it has prioritized fun over quality and equipment.
The second reason has to do with taxes: the most equipped version available in Europe would go to the next section in the registration tax in Spain (14.75%) due to its level of emissions (200 gr/km), which would make the car more expensive. final price.
In all ways, the Toyota GR86 that will arrive in Spain will have everything you need to enjoy driving. It can be chosen in three colors: red, black and white, exactly those of the Gazoo Racing logo.
The RZ finish includes 17-inch wheels, Michelin Primacy 4 tires, normal and non-aluminum pedals, and cloth-trimmed seats. But this equipment can be completed with two additional packages.
Two additional packs
On the one hand, the Toyota Touring Pack costs 2,500 euros and is made up of Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tires, 18-inch wheels and GR pads (supplier not yet confirmed). It is designed for those looking for a sportier feel, better tire grip and a more personalized look.
Second, the Circuit Pack is worth 5,000 euros and consists of racing brakes (supplier not yet confirmed), Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and 18-inch forged wheels, in addition to other surprises that Toyota has not yet wanted to reveal.
Only 100 units
The GR86 is powered by a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter boxer four-cylinder engine that delivers 234 hp and 250 Nm of torque, sent directly to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox. There is also an automatic transmission, but it will not arrive in Spain.
With this configuration, it goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds and reaches 226 km/h. It has ventilated disc brakes on all four wheels and, as standard, it incorporates ABS, brake assist, traction control, stability control, hill start assist and emergency braking indicator.
And now comes the most important thing: if you want one, you will have to be very attentive, because, at the moment, only the arrival of 100 units on the Spanish market in the two years that its production will last is confirmed.
And it will be so, unfortunately, because the Toyota GR86 is going to stop being manufactured, as we have already told you, due to the most demanding emission standards that will come into force from 2025.
