Comparison of the Kia Stinger GT vs Kia EV6 GT: gasoline vs electric

The combustion GT faces the electric GT: this is the comparison of the Kia Stinger GT vs. Kia EV6 GT, which of the two is more convincing?

Combustion engine meets electric, or in other words: the old and new worlds go on the road together in this comparison: the Kia Stinger GT takes on its brother, the Kia EV6 GT.

The gasoline Kia extracts 366 hp and 510 Nm from a V6 Turbo, the electric, 585 hp from two motors and no less than 740 Nm.

The fact that the Koreans introduced us to a car like the Stinger in 2017 has less to do with business acumen and more to do with cultivating brand image. And it is that this model has not been a bestseller exactly, although for just over 60,000 euros a four-door sports car and 4.83 meters with very complete equipment.

For former Kia chief designer Peter Schreyer, who had previously created the Audi TT, the Stinger was a matter of the heart. The long hood, the low silhouette, the sloping roofline… Kia had none of that in its range, let alone with a V6 and all-wheel drive.

I floor the accelerator, the autoconverter shifts through eight gears quickly and smoothly, then he pushes me back into the seat and I plunge purposefully into the turn and think to myself: Did he just shake his ass? Won’t I be behind the wheel of a BMW?

That may certainly be the case, because in addition to Schreyer, Albert Biermann was also involved, who was commissioning the fastest and most radical M models for BMW.

I put it in Sport Plus mode on the narrow country road and the four-wheel drive sends most of the power to the rear axle, this requires some skill behind the wheel, because it’s a car with an insatiable appetite for corners.

I move on to the EV6 GT, 585 hp, one motor on each axle, 710 Nm of torque, and it wins me over after just 10 seconds. I hit the accelerator and he rockets up the mountain road as butterflies fill my stomach and a wide grin spreads across my face.

Generally speaking, the EV6 GT is a kind of half-price Porsche Taycan, and the lead time is already a year. The EV6 is fully designed as an electric car, the 77.4 kWh batteries are located in the vehicle floor and, with a weight of 479 kilograms, ensure a low center of gravity, which benefits driving stability.

In the same tight corner where the Stinger leaned sideways at 70 km/h, the EV6 passes even faster and without rocking whatsoever. At the rear axle they’ve fitted an oil-cooled coil motor with a two-stage inverter with silicon carbide semiconductors, possibly from space research, one thing is for sure this sports machine drives like it’s from another planet.

I press the neon yellow button on the steering wheel, GT mode sets all drive and chassis systems to pure dynamics, in Drift mode it even directs all the power to the rear, which we of course refrain from doing in the country road.

What would we improve on the EV6 GT? Somewhat less less hard plastic (seatbelt tabs rattle against the lining) and seats with finer adjustment using a rotary wheel or power adjustment. For the rest, our conclusion is clear: it is a car that borders on perfection.
