Diesel and gasoline prices fall after two consecutive weeks of increases

But they are still more expensive than a year ago.

Thinking about the price of diesel and gasoline is, lately, synonymous with getting angry. For this reason, nothing other than celebrating when the cost of fuel stops rising or even falls, as is the case: both fuels are slightly cheaper after two weeks of continuous rises.

According to the latest data from the European Union Oil Bulletin, the average price of a liter of gasoline has fallen this week by 1.12%, to stand at 1.764 euros; while in the case of diesel the fall is greater, from 3.24% to stay at 1.876 euros per liter. From both amounts, the State discount of 20 cents per liter must be subtracted.

This is a small respite for drivers, which moves fares away from the feared figure of €2/l and also from the all-time highs recorded in the country.

That of gasoline was registered in the week of June 20, when it reached 2,141 euros per liter, while that of diesel was in the following week, that of June 27, when it stood at 2,100 euros. It is clear that diesel is above gasoline, an unusual situation, but one that has been maintained for 15 weeks

Taking last year’s figures as a reference, both without applying state discounts and applying them, both fuels are more expensive than 12 months ago. Without a subsidy, gasoline is 16.6% more expensive, and with it it is still 3.43% higher. Diesel is 35.94% and even applying the discount it has become 21.44% more expensive.

Filling a 50-liter gasoline tank costs 88.2 euros without a discount and 78.2 euros with it applied, in the case of a diesel one you have to pay 93.8 and 83.8 euros, respectively.

It remains to be seen what will happen in 2023, since the Government is considering eliminating the 20-cent aid and restricting it only to certain professional groups and to those with the lowest incomes.
