Fernando Alonso completes 16 laps at the wheel of the Aston Martin AMR23 in his first outing on the track.

Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll have completed the first kilometers at the wheel of the Aston Martin AMR23 at the Silverstone Circuit, where the British team has made its first ‘filming day’; that is to say, a publicity shoot limited to 100 kilometers that the teams usually use to verify that everything works correctly before the pre-season tests.

In this type of event it is impossible to put the car’s performance to the test, especially when the tires to be used are demonstration tires so that nobody takes advantage of the ‘filming day’. The key is not to suffer mechanical setbacks to be able to start winter training without scares.

As the Aston Martin team has published, the debut of the AMR23 was without hiccups. Lance Stroll was in charge of completing the first few laps at the Silverstone Circuit behind the wheel of the car, before handing over his place to Fernando Alonso in the afternoon. In total, the two drivers completed 33 laps (17 for Lance and 16 for Fernando).

“It’s been a good day and I had fun getting behind the wheel of the AMR23 for the first time. It’s good to feel the speed of a Formula 1 car again after a while away. We’ve done a lot today because it’s a filming day, we completed our plan bit by bit,” Alonso said.

“We just have to wait for next week’s practice to get to know our car better and we will better understand where the competition is after the winter. We only have a day and a half to complete the job, so we have to maximize the time we have in the car,” he added.

For his teammate, Stroll, “launching the AMR23 has been very special and the car has given us a good feeling. Everything worked as we expected and without problems, which is the most important thing for the tests in Bahrain.”

“We know there’s always a lot to learn at the beginning of the year, but we’ve got off to a good start and I’ve really enjoyed driving. There’s nothing like putting my right foot into a brand new Formula 1 car after a long winter break.” .

Today the Mercedes teams – just after presenting the W14 – and Ferrari, with the SF-23 that Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc will drive this season, have also been able to shoot.

In just one week, the Formula 1 pre-season tests will begin at the Bahrain Circuit, and there we will be able to have a clearer idea of the performance of the single-seaters before the moment of truth arrives with the first date. the first weekend of March.
