Fuel prices have not stopped rising since the end of the 20 cent discount

Gasoline has risen no less than 18% so far this year, while diesel has done so by 15.6%.

2023 started with two important innovations for drivers: the launch of the Low Emission Zones (ZBE) and the end of the 20 cent discount on fuel, except for professionals. After reaching the end of the first month of the year, we can say that fuel prices have not stopped rising since then.

There is only one day left until the end of the first month of the year and gasoline and diesel have chained four consecutive weeks of increases in Spain.

If we do not take into account the discount of 20 cents, gasoline has risen no less than 18% so far this year, while diesel has risen by 15.6%, which has reduced the amount that existed between both fuels.

gasoline price

As a result of the rise in fuel prices, today the average price of gasoline stands at 1.671 euros per liter and filling an average 50-liter tank costs 83.55 euros. For its part, diesel is paid today at 1.706 euros/litre, which means that an average deposit arrives at 85.30 euros.

Despite the high prices we see at the pumps, fuels are cheaper than in the rest of the European Union countries, although this data does not console anyone.

negative outlook

And the prospects are not very rosy, since Europe needs more diesel than it produces and part of that fuel that it imports comes from Russia. On February 5, this situation will worsen with the entry into force of EU sanctions on products derived from Russian oil.

The gas station sector is already warning that a rise in fuel prices will be inevitable in the coming months. It is still early to make forecasts, but it will be necessary to see if the historical values that we saw last summer, when they exceeded 2 euros, are reached again.
