With the eleventh edition, the 2022 Honda Civic is visually better and also more technically interesting. It has just been presented and we will tell you how and how much it changes.
50 years ago the first generation of the Honda Civic was presented, now the Japanese have given their compact a twist. While the predecessor (Honda Civic 2017) had a fairly sporty design, even after the restyling it received in 2020, it now has a more elegant line.
Hybrid engine for the 2022 Civic
It opts for a hybrid propulsion system (not plug-in) like the one we already know from the Honda Jazz and the Honda HR-V. Although, for the moment, they have not confirmed either which gasoline engine will be mounted or the total power of the set.
Although they are still speculation on our part, we think it will be the 1.5 block that the Jazz and HR-V carry, rather than the 2.0-liter CR-V. Basically for an issue of downsizing and reduction of emissions. And let’s guess, we assume that it will have the power of the HR-V, that is, 107 hp, because the 98 hp of the Jazz would fall somewhat short.
Regarding the electric motor, it could be 80 or 96 kW, that is, 109 or 131 CV, which are the ones that currently exist in the range.
And what we cannot (nor will we be able to) mention is the battery capacity, since that data Honda never usually reveals. Therefore, the electric autonomy is also an unknown.
This is the new Honda Civic on the outside
Regarding its design, we who have been able to see it live, can tell you that it is simpler and more contemporary than before. The long hood and sloping roof also give this 11th generation Honda Civic a certain sportiness.
At the rear the design is much less wild, the spoiler that was previously on the edge of the roof and the lower part of the tailgate is omitted and now you have to settle for a small crease at the edge of the boot lid. Mind you, the position of the third brake light is interesting, as it is now located between the taillights, creating the effect of a continuous LED strip when braking.
At a lush 4.55 meters long (+31mm over the previous generation) and with a wheelbase of 2.73 meters (+35mm), we sit very comfortably in the front. Of course, in the back seat the space available for the head is quite fair, something that those who measure more than 1.80 meters will notice.
Passenger compartment and multimedia system
Inside, the infotainment screen is now located high on the dashboard and not integrated into it, so you don’t have to take your eyes off the road as much. Also, it grows from seven to nine inches.
The multimedia system is handled intuitively from the first time you start moving through its menus and it works smoothly. Important functions like the home key or volume rocker are physical buttons and are located on the left edge, which always makes things easier.
Regarding connectivity, it should be noted that Honda has wanted to mount the wireless Apple CarPlay system, while Android phones can only be paired with a cable.
The materials and the new climate control unit are now of higher quality, and the temperature is still selected via a rotary knob, although it is true that the knobs with which the ventilation levels are selected are exaggeratedly large.
The new Honda Civic arrives at dealerships in the fall, with an official price that is not yet confirmed, but could start at around 25,000 euros. And, it seems, luckily for fans of the brand, the Honda Civic Type R will also arrive later, in this case without a hybrid engine and with a much more radical character, of course.
