On some conventional roads with physical separation of the two directions of traffic, the owner of the road could increase the speed limit to 100 km/h.

Speed ​​limits in the city were modified on May 11, 2011, a date on which Spain became the first European country with a limit of 30 km/h in all cities, although with exceptions:

Streets with a single platform of carriageway and sidewalk: 20 km/h

Street with a single lane in each direction of traffic: 30 km/h

Streets with two or more lanes in each direction of traffic: 50 km/h

Fines for speeding

Exceeding the speed limits for motorists or any other type of vehicle is typified as a serious or very serious offense depending on the excess and the consequences. The fines range from 100 to 600 euros and withdrawal of between 2 and 6 points:

SERIOUS OFFENSE:

Limits between 20 and 50 km/h:

Up to 20 km/h more: €100 fine. Does not subtract points.

From 21 to 30 km/h more: €300 fine. 2 points.

From 31 to 40 km/h more: €400 fine. 4 points.

From 41 to 50 km/h more: €500 fine. 6 points.

Limits between 60 and 120 km/h:

Limits between 20 and 50 km/h:

More than 51 km/h: €600 fine. 6 points.

Limits between 60 and 120 km/h:

More than 71 km/h: €600 fine. 6 points.

When speeding exceeds the limit on urban roads by more than 60 km/h and the limit on interurban roads by more than 80 km/h, the fine becomes a crime:

Prison sentence from 3 to 6 months or a fine from 6 to 12 months or work for the benefit of the community from 31 to 90 days.

In any case, the deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles and mopeds for a period of more than 1 and up to 4 years is added.

This is what article 379 of the Penal Code says:

“Whoever drives a motor vehicle or a moped at a speed greater than sixty kilometers per hour on urban roads or eighty kilometers per hour on interurban roads than that permitted by regulation, will be punished with a prison sentence of three to six months or the a fine from six to twelve months or work in benefit of the community from thirty-one to ninety days, and, in any case, to deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles and mopeds for more than one and up to four years ”.
