After three years seeing how it could not grow in income. Finally, this year Orange has seen a growth of 0.2% in its income precisely in the third quarter, up to 1,178 million euros, as confirmed today by the French group itself. And it is that, most important of all, since 2019 it is the first time that it has grown again in terms of income.

It was not since the first quarter of 2019 that the mobile operator did not see its income rise. And, in these previous nine months of 2022, the truth is that they have seen their income drop by 2.8%, that is, up to 3,444 million euros according to a financial report.

The current situation of Orange

In that same report from the operator itself that we mentioned, it is indicated by Orange that the different retail services they have in Spain continued with their recovery, having a quarterly decrease of 1.4% to 781 million. On the other hand, in the second they had to face a drop of 2.1% and 4% during the first. And all due to the expense they have made in recent times per client. Although, it improved by 2.4% year-on-year and at a lower turnover rate.

And it is that, despite the positive side of having grown in income, in Orange, for now, they have 2.8% less income so far this year if we compare it with the same period of 2021. However, the The telephone company has benefited from the wholesale business, since it has also grown again and, in this case, has achieved 4.2%, that is, up to 237 million euros, thanks to the recovery of roaming revenues of tourists, since they rose by 17.9%.

The future of the operator

Despite the strong blow suffered by Orange and the rest of the operators after the paralysis of travel and the world due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the recovery of this percentage of income is good news. In addition, the continuous improvement that is carried out in retail services coincides precisely with the effort in its cost structure that the telephone company has had to assume. Therefore, by 2023 they are clear that their goal will be “return to EBITDA growth after leasing (EBITDAAL)”.

In any case, it must be taken into account that the French operator has up to 20.9 million customers in Spain, of which 16.9 million are mobile telephony and four million fixed broadband. In addition, in mobile, the company comes to offer 5G services to up to 1.5 million people in the country, after adding some 850,000 users since September 2021. And another characteristic fact is that the operator already exceeds one million users who have with its television services.

Therefore, despite having experienced important changes, the future looks more hopeful. And even more so after the signing of the agreement with MásMóvil last July in order to integrate their respective businesses in the country. A final agreement that is valued at almost 19 million euros.
