Just in time for the birthday of the Carrera 2.7, Porsche is reissuing it in a special series limited to 1,250 units. We have tested the Porsche 911 Sport Classic
The Porsche 911 Sport Classic is based on the Turbo, comes with a classic seven-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive. And something to keep in mind: it costs more than 50,000 euros extra.
The sports suspension by ten millimeters lowered with active PDCC (from the big brother) and the sports exhaust system are standard on this Porsche, the rear axle steering, the front lift system and the ceramic brake system, too.
Design
In addition to the spoiler, the typical two humps on the roof and the specifically designed front hood made of carbon fiber are visually striking.
As for the color, the presentation is the exclusive Sport gray for the 992 Sport Classic, alternatively there is agate gray, and the black and gentian blue that we tested today.
Inside, the first thing that catches your eye are the sports seats with their Pepita center panels, and some of the door panels are also clad in the classic cloth pattern. There are also various golden plaques and emblems inside and out.
Behavior of the 911 Sport Classic
We go to our reference aerodrome to measure. Porsche lists 4.1 seconds on the data sheet, just a tenth faster than a C2S with a manual transmission and rear-wheel drive. Our test car has improved it by a tenth, which says a lot about its potential.
That said, the Sport Classic isn’t a speed monster, although at 1,557 kilograms measured it has slimmed down surprisingly well compared to the 100 kilogram heavier Turbo.
When it comes to the springiness values, it does really well, although the measurements from 60 to 100 km/h were sometimes faster with other 911s. Is it because of the translation of the transmission, or because they wanted to give it a touch of comfort?
Of course, it is not because of the tires, because the P-Zero with Porsche identification transmits the forces in an excellent way. But there is something that has left us especially impressed: it only requires 29.6 meters in heat to stop from 100 km/h, but above all, the 119.2 meters from 200 are simply outstanding. Full of points in the brake classification.
We would have liked to provide fuel mileage figures as well, but unfortunately we only had the test car available for a day and a half, and that was far from our standard mileage round.
The only thing left is to look at the on-board computer at the end of the test drive – about half a liter more than promised. And keep in mind that the percentage of full throttle is a bit higher than in our standard procedure for measuring consumption. I plead guilty. But it’s also hard not to let a dream sports car fly when it’s possible.
Factors to decide the purchase
More than 50,000 euros more expensive than a Turbo S, so the arguments in favor of the Sport Classic are anything but rational. But since when has this type of car been in the realm of reason? The unique combination of engine, manual gearbox and rear drive makes it simply irresistible.
