The manufacturer QNAP has launched a new family of manageable switches with 10G and 2.5G ports, the new models are the QSW-M2106, and we currently have two high-performance models that will allow us to speed up the home, office, and even network. of the small business. These new devices incorporate high-end features, without forgetting a very easy-to-configure operating system with a pleasant graphical user interface. Do you want to know the characteristics of these new home switches with 10G ports? Below you have all the details.

Main characteristics of the switches

Currently, the QSW-M2106 family is made up of two models, the first model is the QSW-M2106-4C, which is intended for use with Ethernet (copper) network cables, both to connect through the 2.5G ports and through the 10G ports, however, this model also has SFP+ ports for fiber. If you are only going to connect fiber cables, then the QSW-M2106-4S model is what you are looking for, since it incorporates all 10G ports with SFP+ connector instead of the typical RJ-45.

QSW-M2106-4C

This manageable switch has a total of 6 2.5G Multigigabit ports, we also have a total of 4 10G Combo ports. We can use these four 10G ports with either an RJ-45 or SFP+ connector, so it supports both the usual Ethernet network cables with RJ-45 connector, as well as SFP+ transceivers or DAC cables with this type of connector.

This switch allows a MAC address table of up to 16K entries, we have a switching capacity of 110Gbps, but a total non-blocking throughput of 55Gbps. Another very important aspect is that it supports Jumbo Frames at 9K with the aim of having the maximum possible efficiency, in this way, we will be able to reach approximately 9.8Gbps.

This manageable switch is configured directly from the web, however, we can also access the RJ-45 console port for local administration tasks. QNAP’s operating system for switches has the same features as always, such as configuring VLANs, Link Aggregation, RSTP and many more protocols that any L2 managed switch incorporates, but QNAP’s firmware has a really user-friendly design.

This switch has a small fan to properly cool the internal components, it is PWM so it will adapt its speed depending on the temperature of the switch itself, ideal to be as quiet as possible without endangering the components. The dimensions of this equipment are 29cm wide, 4.25cm high and 12.7cm deep, in addition, it has a weight of 1.15Kg. Regarding consumption, this model consumes a maximum of up to 36W at full capacity.

QSW-M2106-4S

This manageable switch is very similar to the previous one, we also have a total of 6 2.5G Multigigabit ports, but in this case we have 4 10G SFP+ ports. Thanks to these SFP+ ports, we can connect both transceivers and use fiber optics, as well as use DAC cables.

In this model we also have the same switching features, such as 16K MAC table entries, up to 110Gbps switching (up to 55Gbps non-blocking), and support for 9K Jumbo Frames. This model has the same configuration options as always, in this aspect nothing has changed.

This switch also has a smart fan that adapts its speed depending on the temperature, with the aim of being as quiet as possible. The dimensions and weight are exactly the same, however, this model clearly consumes less, since according to the technical specifications it consumes a maximum of 16W.

As you can see, these new QNAP switches are perfect for domestic environments where we need high speed locally, perfect for getting the most out of the 2.5G Multigigabit ports and 10G ports of NAS servers, and also desktop computers. . Thanks to its small fan that is “smart”, we will have maximum silence most of the time, perfect so that it does not bother as much as the professional models where the fan is always running at maximum.
