Are you viewing a web page with a large chunk of text, but are you actually looking for a single word? Then you can easily search for keywords in Safari on iOS without having to read the entire page.

Search web pages in Safari

If you have a web page open on iPhone or iPad, you can search the text on the page. You can use two different ways to do this. In this tip we explain how to search websites in Safari on the iPhone and iPad.

  • Search in web pages
  • Search via share menu

Search web pages in Safari

Safari is the default browser on iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. In the address bar you can enter websites and perform searches, but you can also use this bar to search for text in the current page.

You do this as follows:

  1. Open a web page.
  2. Enter a search term in the address bar, for example ‘Safari’ in the example.
  3. You will now see various search suggestions from Google (or another default search engine).
  4. At the bottom you will see ‘On this page’ with the number of results, in this case 17. Tap this.

Nice to know is that you can also change the search query at the bottom of the screen, without having to go back to the address bar. Tap it and just change “smart plug” to “smart plugs” (or something else entirely) to find the web page again.

Search in web page via share menu

You can also search through the share menu on iPhone and iPad. This is how you do this:

  1. Open the web page you want to search.
  2. Tap the share icon (square with an arrow pointing up) at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Choose Find on page.
  4. You will now see the same search function and can, for example, enter the search term.
