The hybrid pioneer.
The Toyota Prius has surprised with its new generation, which looks much more like a coupe and a priori Europe will only arrive under the plug-in hybrid car format. However, its good name has been generated by previous generations, which are available on the used market. How much does a used Toyota Prius Plus cost?
It is something that depends a lot, since although its offer is quite limited (there are barely fifty for sale currently) among used cars, it is quite varied in terms of age, condition, mileage, etc.
Used Toyota Prius
The first second-hand Prius that are available are from the second generation, which began in 2004. It is the one that visually (as well as technologically) looks more outdated, uses a 112 CV mechanic, has mileage between 100,000 and 400,000 km, and a price range of between 5,000 and 10,000 euros.
The third generation evolved in terms of design, adopting similar proportions, but with a somewhat more defined image, especially on the front. It is still a conventional hybrid, but Toyota improved the performance of its propulsion system to 136 hp.
It is somewhat more common than its predecessor in the second-hand market, but not much. Except for very specific cases, it is normal for them to exceed at least 100,000 kilometers and it is quite common for them to be above 250,000. Their prices are usually between 10,000 and 15,000 euros.
It is the current generation that is most common in the used market, representing practically 60% of the cars that are for sale.
It is the model that has the most aesthetic personality to date, with a sharper set that, at the same time, may be the one that most divides opinions. Its hybrid system continues to have a 1.8 engine as its central element, but it cuts power compared to its predecessor to settle for only 122 hp.
Logically they are the newest (from 2015 onwards), they have mileages of between 30,000 and 150,000 kilometers, and their price starts at around 15,000 euros, but can almost double in the most expensive copies.
Used Toyota Prius Plus
The situation is even more accentuated in the case of the second-hand Toyota Prius Plus, since it is rare to find it on the used market, with as a general rule around a dozen copies for sale in Spain.
This variant of the hybrid lengthened the body up to 4,615 mm and extended the roof line, so that it made room for two additional seats up to seven and also got more space for the trunk.
Like the standard model, it is only available as HEV mechanics, in this case with 136 CV, which allows it to approve (on paper) a consumption of only 4.1 l/100 km.
Among the scarce offer that can be found of the model there are copies that go from 2006 to 2019, as a general rule with a lot of use behind them, it being difficult to find one that has less than 70,000 kilometers and being relatively common those that exceed 250,000 ( It must be taken into account that this body has been used a lot as a taxi).
Regarding prices, the cheapest start at about 5,000 euros and the most expensive are slightly above 20,000.
