Although there are still a few months left, Google will launch a new update with which it will be possible to install many more applications on a Smart TV with Android TV or a device with Google TV. And it is that, one of the big problems that users who have a television with this operating system find it at the moment in which they want to fill their TV with apps.

Basically, because one of the biggest drawbacks that this operating system for Smart TV has had to face is the lack of memory on the television. Something that will change from next year with the update that Google has promised to bring.

Apps will take up less space

As much as the Google TV and Android TV operating systems are some of the best options, since you have access to the extensive catalog of the Play Store, specifically more than 10,000 applications, the truth is that the lack of space on these Smart TVs or devices It is one of the big problems that will finally have a solution as of May 2023.

It will not be until that date when the company of the big G decides to launch the update with which the Android TV and Google TV applications will occupy much less than before and, in this way, more can be installed. However, it will not be the only novelty that we find with this future update.

As you may have noticed, whether you have a TV with Android TV or a Chromecast with Google TV, the lack of internal memory is a drawback. More than anything, because on average, these devices usually have 8 GB of storage, compared to the 64 GB that Android smartphones usually have, at least.

In this way, if users want to add more apps to their Android televisions, they will have to eliminate other options, worsening the user experience. However, everything will change with the arrival of the Android App Bundle (AAB), a new app format that will forever replace the APKs we’ve known for years. However, they already presented it back in 2018, although it has not been until now when it has really begun to be used.

The new Android App Bundle format

The standard publishing format within Google Play today is Android App Bundles. However, starting in May 2023, it will be mandatory on Android TV and Google TV in order to save space and make apps take up less space.

First of all, it is possible to save space on the device since these Android App Bundles allow us a very particular function. Specifically, we will have the option of archiving them so that we can gain memory on televisions and devices. In this way, according to data from Google, it is possible to free up to 60% of the space occupied by the app that has been archived. And not only this, but App Bundles manage to save an average of 20% in the size of applications compared to APKs.

The main objective is not only to improve storage or memory management, but also to make the probability of uninstalling an app from the Smart TV or device much lower.
