Telefónica takes out its own V16 beacon connected with the DGT

It costs 59.95 euros.

The days of the emergency triangles are numbered: on January 1, 2026 they will be replaced, on a mandatory basis, by connected beacons. The brands, as is logical, are getting ahead of the deadline and are already launching their first models: Telefónica has already released its own V16 beacon connected with the DGT.

Called FlashLED SOS V16, the company states that “it has all the necessary functionalities to guarantee both emergency signaling and connectivity and data transmission to the DGT, as required by the recent modification of Royal Decree 159/2021” .

Its operation is simple: in the event that the car is stopped due to an emergency, the beacon sends a signal to communicate with the DGT and report the place where the incident occurred, so that optimal traffic management can be carried out. .

In addition to connectivity, the other advantages of this type of system compared to traditional triangles are that it is not necessary to get out of the car to put them on (it is placed on the roof), so the occupants are not endangered, and that they are visible from a much greater distance, since they are luminous.

Telefónica guarantees that the device will have connectivity for 12 years and affirms that its technology will also be applied to beacons from other manufacturers, with the aim of being a leader in the segment, which in a few years should connect 30 million vehicles throughout Spain.

Gonzalo Martín-Villa, CEO of IoT and Big Data at Telefónica Tech, points out: “Telecommunications networks, in this case the latest generation NB-IoT networks specially designed to connect Internet of Things objects, play a fundamental role in improving the lives of people, since they enhance the safety of drivers”.

Jordi Gilberga, project manager at FlashLED, points out: “We are very pleased to be able to count on Telefónica Tech as a partner for the development of the new FlashLED SOS V16 connected beacon. These new devices have arrived to transform the way we conceive of road safety”.

Telefónica’s FlashLED SOS V16 is already on sale “in the main automotive sector stores” at a price of 59.95 euros.
