The African expedition “4x4electric” will cover 40,000 km in an electric car

Geotab has joined forces with 4x4electric to face a considerable challenge: to carry out a round trip route from the Netherlands to South Africa, with a total of 40,000 kilometers and an estimated duration of one year, aboard an electric car.

The founders of 4x4electric, Renske Cox and Maarten van Pel, left Haelen (The Netherlands) on November 4 and Madrid was one of the stops on the trip.

The trip has three goals in mind: demonstrate the potential of the electric motor, discover sustainable initiatives across the African continent, and collect information about the expedition vehicle throughout its journey.

Which one is this? A Skoda Enyaq, specifically the iV80 version, which has some modifications, among which is, above all, the presence of portable solar panels to recharge the vehicle when it is in remote regions without the possibility of connecting to the network.

Iván Lequerica, Geotab’s Vice President of Southern and Western Europe, said: “I am proud to be part of 4x4electric’s incredible expedition through Africa. Electric vehicles are already a reality and initiatives such as 4x4electric help to make electrification visible, and to create a more sustainable world for all”.

He adds: “As we move towards net-zero emissions, our technology, such as the Electric Vehicle Adoption Report Card (EVSA) and the EV Battery Degradation Tool, can help companies optimize the sustainability of their fleets”.

For his part, Renske Cox, founder of 4x4electric, says: “Our inspiration has been our love for nature and our desire to lead a sustainable lifestyle. The 4x4electric expedition is our way of showing that you can love the planet without stopping living on it”.

“We are delighted that Geotab has joined our adventure and can provide the technology that displays data points throughout our journey. As a company, they have the same commitment to the environment as we do, and we will share this journey together.”
