The DGT has everything ready for the second phase of the special Christmas traffic operation. It will start tomorrow, Friday, December 30, and will continue until 00:00 on Monday, January 2, which will be a holiday in five autonomous communities.
Tráfico estimates that more than 4.2 million trips were made in this period.
Technical and human means
In order to monitor the roads and try to ensure that traffic is as fluid as possible, the DGT has in this second phase of the special Christmas operation the maximum availability of Civil Guard Traffic agents, civil servants from the traffic management centers traffic. personnel in charge of maintaining equipment and installing road measures.
Regarding the technical means that will be used to maximize vigilance and avoid some of the most recurring offenses in these festive periods (excessive speed, distractions, seat belt…) all fixed, mobile and section speed cameras will be operational.
Also the 13 helicopters (some with Pegasus radar), 39 drones, 245 cameras and 15 camouflaged vans to control the use of mobile phones and seat belts.
In order to favor circulation in the most conflictive areas, the DGT has planned, among other measures, the installation of reversible and additional lanes with cones in the hours of greatest traffic flow and the establishment of alternative itineraries.
It is expected that the most unfavorable hours to travel will be between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on Friday the 30th and 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Saturday the 31st. Monday, January 2 will be more complicated in the regions where it is a public holiday: Andalusia, Aragon , Asturias, Castilla y León and Murcia.
