The next Citroën C3 will have an electric version

Citroen C3

The new generation of the Citroën C3 should be just around the corner and, as the market dictates, it seems that the utility vehicle, one of the best-selling models in Spain, will have a 100% electric version.

Remember that the current model has been on the market since 2016 and is based on PSA’s PF1 platform, so it is somewhat outdated. In addition, this has prevented the vehicle from being electrified, something that will change with its replacement, which will be developed on the Stellantis CMP platform, which already serves as the basis for other Citroën models.

Arnaud Ribault, European Head of Citroën, has confirmed to his AutoExpress colleagues the use of the CMP platform and the reason for that decision: “The work we are doing now is to reduce costs or be able to compensate for the growing cost of materials. raw materials and electrification in all the projects we are developing”.

Logically, there are still no details about what its available engines will be, but seeing the modus operandi of the Stellantis Group, it is not difficult to guess that it will present a range similar (if not identical) to its cousins, the Peugeot 208 and Opel Corsa.

Thus, it would not be surprising to find an offer of engines made up of gasoline alternatives with 75, 100 and 130 hp power, diesel with 100 hp and, above all, an electric one, with 136 hp, a 50 kWh battery and a range that varies. depending on the model, but that is always around 330 kilometers.

The presentation of the Citroën C3 (and the Citroën e-C3) is expected for next year, 2023, and the logical thing is that not much later the new generation of the Citroën C3 Aircross will see the light, which will share a technical section, which means also that it has a variant of zero emissions, the Citroën e-C3 Aircross.

An evolution of both in terms of design is also expected to follow in the footsteps of the brand’s most recent launches, especially with the firm’s new frontal visual identity, in which the ‘X’-shaped headlights are presented as logo extensions at the hood ends.
