The price of gasoline and diesel continues to rise

The month of January makes the trend clear.

It was something that could be foreseen, but it is nonetheless painful for the pocket: the price of gasoline and diesel continues to rise, ending a first month of the year in which there has been a clear upward trend.

With the end of 2022, it was announced that the state aid of 20 cents for the purchase of fuels would end, but, without taking into account the disappearance of the discount, the increase is still sensitive.

On December 31, 2022 the prices were as follows:

  • Gasoline 95: 1,597 euros/liter
  • Gasoline 98: 1,768 euros/liter
  • Diesel: 1,670 euros/liter
  • Premium diesel: 1,768 euros/liter

Today, January 27, 2023, the rates are at these points:

  • Gasoline 95: 1,670 euros/liter
  • Gasoline 98: 1,845 euros/liter
  • Diesel: 1,710 euros/liter
  • Premium diesel: 1,814 euros/liter

During the first four weeks of the year there has been a clear rise, although it has not been the same during all of them. The first was the one in which the steepest ascents took place, passing to a more stable second and reaching a third where the climb was resumed, especially in the two types of gasoline.

This increase, coupled with the disappearance of government aid, has resulted in a noticeable impact when it comes to filling the fuel tank.

Taking one of a 55-liter tank as a reference, doing it during the last week of 2022 meant 75.07 euros in the case of gasoline and 79.36 euros in the case of diesel, but currently it is 91.85 euros for a gasoline and 94.05 euros.

It does not seem that the trend is going to change and, in fact, with the sanctions that the European Union is going to apply to Russia from February, it is most likely that there will be a rebound during the next month.
