When creating an intelligent home, different terms can come out. One of them is home automation, very present today. We have many devices that we can use in our day to day to automatize the home. But the term artificial intelligence can also appear and sometimes they are confused. In this article we are going to talk about their differences, but we will also see what relationship they have.

What is home automation and artificial intelligence

First of all, we are going to explain what home automation is. We can say that they are all the smart devices that we have in our home. For example Wi-Fi light bulbs that we control from the mobile, an oven that we can also control remotely, temperature or humidity sensors, etc.

Home automation means making common household appliances smart. We can name many more: refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers, microwaves… The truth is that we have a wide range of options and there are more and more devices available, with more functions and better prices.

But on the other hand we have artificial intelligence or simply AI. They are basically devices and systems that seek to replicate human action in machines. For example, through artificial intelligence we can create a voice system or even create videos simulating people, but in reality it is done by software.

It is, therefore, trying to replicate human thought or the actions of people, in machines and systems. They can create processes that we carry out in our day to day. But this is something that comes from before home automation and is also applied in very varied fields. Therefore, there are differences between home automation and artificial intelligence.

The clearest difference is that home automation refers to homes. Artificial intelligence can be used in many more areas of our lives.

Home automation in the houses of the future

Home automation is AI applied to homes

We can say that home automation is artificial intelligence adapted to homes. It is taking advantage of existing devices, such as an oven or a refrigerator, but applying artificial intelligence. In this way we can make these devices more intelligent and get new functions.

Artificial intelligence in this case can learn from our tastes or habits to, for example, turn on the heating at times when we are at home or show us recipes that we can make in the oven based on the tastes we have. It is, basically, an automatic learning of everything that we are doing in our day to day.

What artificial intelligence does in our homes through home automation is to create different automation mechanisms. For example, turning lights on and off when we perform certain functions, closing or opening blinds, turning the air conditioning on or off, etc. They are patterns that are established over time.

Therefore, although home automation and artificial intelligence are not the same, we can say that they have a direct relationship. Home automation is artificial intelligence adapted to household appliances. But artificial intelligence can also be present in many other devices and systems beyond our home.
