These are the four great fears with the car of Spanish drivers

BeConfluence and Pons Mobility have made public the results of their first report on mobility in Spain: the biggest fears of Spanish drivers are focused on the price of fuel and the restrictions that are being imposed on citizens, while sustainability and alternative mobility are not relevant factors.

The analysis has been carried out among more than 9.5 million people, of which 7.5 million were individuals and the rest are self-employed, owners or workers of SMEs, etc. Between 2021 and 2022, “their searches, interactions on social networks and visits to websites” have been analysed, to draw up a list of their main concerns.

The list is as follows:

  • The price of fuel
  • Mobility restrictions in cities to cars
  • Doubts about what type of vehicle to buy
  • Concern about administrative sanctions
  • Concern about what will happen to vehicles with many years

It is not surprising that these are the issues that generate the most concern in Spaniards with regard to mobility, since from Europe combustion cars have been attacked frontally, prohibiting their sale in 2035 and in 2023 149 ZBEs have taken action for all of Spain, which means movement restrictions for millions of users.

Curiously, the reason why these actions are being carried out is something that does not arouse interest or attention in the average citizen: sustainability.

The report states that “despite the massive presence of this concept in the debate launched by institutions, interested companies and the media”, the percentage of citizens who ask themselves about it to make their day-to-day decisions is “smaller than one would imagine”: only 22.9%.

The same happens with alternative mobility, and it is that despite the fact that bicycles and electric scooters are increasingly abundant in cities, only a very small section of searches focus on it: 9.9% have shown interest or concern about.
