This is how you can save the camera settings on the iPhone

You can set your iPhone to save the most recently chosen settings and filters for the Camera app for next time. For example, you can always open the video mode or have a certain filter activated.

Save camera settings

If you want to quickly continue where you left off in the Camera app on the iPhone, it is good to know that you can save the camera settings. For example, if you always take photos in square mode or if you have a specific filter that you always use, you can ensure that these are enabled immediately the next time you start up. Not only can you save the camera mode, but also filters. On the iPad, some of the options we list below may be missing.

  • Which camera settings to save?
  • Switch

Which Camera preferences can you save?

There are several camera settings that you can save for next time. The Creative Controls switch can sometimes have a slightly different name, namely Filter and Exposure. This depends on your iOS version and iPhone model. Also, some options are only available on specific models because they have an improved camera.

You can save these camera settings for next time:

  • Camera mode: Save the last used mode, such as “Video” or “Square”, instead of always starting with “Photo”.

  • Creative Controls/Filter and Exposure: Save the last used filter or light, such as Vivid or Studio Light, instead of always resetting it.

  • Exposure adjustment: Always show the exposure adjustment indicator and remember your previous setting.

  • Night Mode: Instead of auto, iPhone remembers your last night mode setting.

  • Zoom setting for Portrait mode: Always choose the zoomed version of Portrait mode.

  • Apple ProRAW: Always shoot with ProRAW quality. This is especially useful for photographers.

  • Apple ProRes: For those who always shoot videos with ProRes quality, e.g. filmmakers.

  • Live Photo: Save the Live Photo setting so that it is always on or off.

Save Camera settings: remember your favorite modes.

Save camera mode: Here’s how to turn it on

If you choose to save certain camera settings, you can of course still use all other modes and filters. The only difference is that the Camera app always opens with your favorite settings, which saves time.

This is how you enable it:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Go to Camera > Save Settings.
  3. Set the desired switches to green.

To test whether your settings have the desired effect, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Camera and switch it to a different mode or filter.
  2. Close the app completely and relaunch Camera.

Your last used settings should now be visible. Can’t you see it? Then check whether you have adjusted the correct settings. There are separate switches for mode and filters.

You can use all settings while photographing or filming. Please note that these settings will be used the next time you open the app. Don’t you find it useful? Then you turn off the switches.
