The CEO of Volkswagen is not ‘convinced’ of autonomous electric cars
As published by The Wall Street Journal, Oliver Blume would have quarantined the project for the production of autonomous electric cars, known as Trinity.
This project was one of the great commitments of its predecessor and not only laid the foundations for the development of Volkswagen’s first autonomous car, but also included the construction of a plant in Europe for the manufacture of this model.
“We do not have the necessary knowledge to put a car on the street in 2026 that is at the same level as a Tesla,” says a person related to Volkswagen product development in statements collected by Business Insider.
Bet on the present
Apparently, Blume prefers to focus on the development of new technologies that can be applied in the present, in the cars that are already for sale and those that will arrive in the very short term.
He shares this vision with the CEO of the Volkswagen brand, Thomas Schäfer. Both have sent a message to their employees in which they reveal that, although they have not yet reached any conclusions, they are “taking advantage of this opportunity to review all projects and investments and determine if they are viable.”
