Due to the health emergency due to the coronavirus, the Mexican Institute of Social Security suspended the procedures that are usually carried out in its offices or from a teller window. However, it has allowed the development of some procedures such as the retirement card.

What is IMSS?
The IMSS is the Mexican Social Security Institute. This body has been in charge of providing health and social security services to the affiliated population since 1943. Currently, the IMSS is considered the most important social security company in Mexico. In fact, thanks to this organization it is possible to register the insured and pensioners to guarantee equal conditions.

The IMSS retiree card, currently called “Digital card” is a technological instrument that allows retirees to access the pay stubs provided by the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS).
This instrument for retirees is part of an IMSS digitization policy that facilitates the access of active and retired members to this instrument using a computer or mobile device and an internet connection given the health contingency due to the coronavirus.

How to process this instrument?

Digital IMSS
If you have an Android or macOS device, you can access the digital card from the App available on Google Play and AppStore. Online registration digital card for IMSS retirees
If you are affiliated with the IMSS, you must enter the web page and choose the option “Registration of new users”. Choose “New registration” and create a password containing between 8 and 10 characters. Then, press the “Save” button to finish the registration process in the system.
It is convenient that you have an IMSS payment card at hand because the system will ask you for the registration number and the date of your registration in the IMSS.
Download the IMSS digital card for retirees
Once you register online, you must wait 12 hours for the system to send a link to your email that will direct you to the IMSS website in order to verify all the information you have stored. Subsequently, the system will allow you to download the digital card, then it will ask for your username and password.
The system will present you with two alternatives: “File” or “Mail”. If you select “File”, you will see the IMSS payment stub in PDF format on the screen; On the other hand, if you choose “Mail” the document will arrive at your email that you registered in the system. Click on “Payment card”, choose the months to review and press the “Accept” button.
