It is possible to get back photos, videos, reels and Instagram stories after you delete them. This feature can be a godsend if you accidentally delete a message and regret it. It can also be useful if hackers have broken into your Instagram account. If they have deleted certain messages, you can hopefully retrieve them from the trash. In this tip we show you how to recover deleted Instagram content.
View deleted Instagram messages
Deleted posts and stories are retained for 30 days. They can be replaced without too much effort. This works like this:
- Tap the button at the bottom right to go to your profile.
- Tap the three lines at the top right and choose Your Activity > Recently Deleted.
- You will now see recently deleted posts, stories and other content.
Restore Instagram post
Do you want to get the deleted message back? Then tap it and choose Restore. The original post or it. story is then visible again on your profile.
Permanently delete Instagram content
If you really no longer want to use the message and want to delete it permanently, you can do so: tap it and choose the Delete option. The content then immediately disappears from the overview and cannot be retrieved. In this case you do not have to wait 30 days for the content to disappear automatically.
