The Charge Ford Mustang Electric is a really interesting restomod that was introduced three years ago and is now back with the intention of going into production.
It seems that an escape route for classic vehicles that will be banned in the future is an electric car conversion. This is not new. Many are the specialists who have worked their magic with authentic icons of the automotive world converted to electric. One of them is the Ford Mustang Electric by Charge, a really interesting restomod.
Introduced three years ago, the electric Ford Mustang has returned to the scene with the intention of reaching production. Billed as a “completely new handcrafted design icon,” the Mustang Electric is a futuristic version of the 1967 Mustang Fastback.
Charge’s Ford Mustang Electric is a really interesting restomod
It uses officially licensed bodywork to “preserve the classic design and styling” of Ford’s famous pony car, but there are a number of modern updates including a fully enclosed grille flanked by LED headlights, flush door handles, unique wheels and Charge emblems.
However, the biggest changes occur in the cabin, as it bears little resemblance to the American classic. The Ford Mustang Electric now sports a digital instrument cluster and vertical infotainment system, as well as a minimalist steering wheel, push-button shifter and bolstered sport seats. Charge also offers numerous customization options.
And under the skin no longer beats a mighty Detroit V8 engine. Instead, a pair of electric motors (one on each axle) have been installed to create an all-wheel drive system with a combined output of 400 kW (544 PS) and maximum torque of 1,500 Nm. This allows a 0 to 100 km/h time to be recorded in 3.9 seconds, making it faster than the original model.
A 64 kWh lithium-ion battery is responsible for supplying enough energy to travel approximately 320 kilometers without recharging. This autonomy has increased from the original figure of just 200 kilometers three years ago. In addition, it offers a fast charging capacity of 50 kW with direct current.
Charge has announced that its production will be limited to just 499 units and that each of them will have a starting price of 420,000 euros. Reservations are already accepted, although it is not clear when the model will be launched on the market.
