Float notes in Apple’s Notes
For people who use Apple’s Notes app, it may be recognizable. You took notes during a lecture or presentation and then you want to edit them on your Mac. To do this you often have to switch between the notes, which can be quite annoying. You can solve this very easily by making one or two floating notes. This way you can easily put them next to each other. In this tip we explain how this works on the Mac.
- Float note
- Always leave note on top
Floating Note: Open two or more notes at once
Notes offers you the possibility to float notes, so that you can, for example, put two or more notes next to each other. This can be useful, for example, to elaborate notes in more detail without having to switch notes every time. On the iPad you could then use Split View on the iPad. But on the Mac, a floating note is so useful.
To create a floating note, take the following steps:
- Open Notes on your Mac.
- Go to the note you want to float.
- Double-click the note in the left menu bar.
This is the easiest way to create a floating note. You can also choose to go to Window in the menu bar and then click on Open note in new window. You can float as many notes as you want.
Floating note: text always on top
You also have the option to always put a floating note in the top screen. This can be useful, for example, when you are watching a video and taking notes at the same time. You won’t lose your note every time you pause the video.
Take the following steps:
- Make sure you have a floating note as explained above.
- Go to Window in the menu.
- Choose Keep on top.
The note now always remains in the foreground, even if you perform actions in another screen. Only when you open something in full screen, the note does not remain in the foreground. Don’t want to keep the note always in the foreground anymore? Then follow the same steps.
