Microsoft takes great care of the pre-installed applications that it offers us when installing Windows from scratch. We find a series of programs from the firm so that we do not have to use third-party solutions, as happens with the video editor.
This is something that does not convince everyone, especially those who prefer to continue using the software to which they are most accustomed. Hence, as soon as they start working with newly installed Windows, they download their favorite applications for multiple types of use and discard the pre-installed ones.
But it is also true that there are many other less experienced users who find these UWP apps very useful. In this entry mode they already have their web browser, photo viewer, map application or even a video editor. It is precisely this element that we want to focus on in these lines. Keep in mind that the latest versions of Windows 10, the software giant has included, as in Windows 11, the Clipchamp video editor.
However, the problem comes when we are used to using the old editor that was included by default in Windows 10. Surely many of you already know that this was part of the Photos application that we found already pre-installed. However, now it has been redesigned, eliminating the video functions to encourage us to use the aforementioned Clipchamp.
But this is a software solution that many reject or simply prefer to continue using the one they are used to. Let’s see how we can bring it back to life in Windows 10.
Go back to using the original Windows 10 video editor
To achieve what we are telling you, the first thing we do is open the current Windows 10 Photos application. As we mentioned, if you have updated the operating system, the video editing functions and tools have disappeared. However, this same integrated application will help us return the previous one to our computer, as we are going to show you.
Once we have the application on the screen, we go to its configuration window through the gear-shaped icon. Here we are going to find a section that says Legacy Photos Application. Well, this gives us the opportunity to download the old Photos app from the official system store. Therefore, we click on the Get Legacy Photos button.
At that moment, a new Microsoft Store window will open where we now have the opportunity to download and install the old Photos application in Windows 10. We must also keep in mind that the arrival of this does not mean that the new Photos app will disappear. Both can coexist without any problem on our Windows computer. This way we will use the one that interests us most in each case.
However, from the classic Windows 10 video editor, the application itself continues to recommend using the aforementioned Clipchamp.
There is no doubt that Microsoft is betting on this program to carry out these multimedia content editing tasks and is trying to convince us in one way or another to migrate.
