Gmail emails kept going off the screen when I opened them: this is how I solved it

Surely, on more than one occasion, we have encountered a display problem when consulting an email that we receive in our Gmail account, either because they look very large and we are forced to use the mouse to scroll or they appear so small that we need a magnifying glass to see their content.

Unfortunately, this is very common on this platform and is because Gmail preserves the format of the original emails, which, in most cases, is a visualization advantage but also has its negative points, as in this case. Whether we see the emails as too wide or too small, we can change their size to make them much easier to read and to do so, we just have to follow the steps shown below.

Change the display size of Gmail emails

The number of options that we can use to modify the display of Gmail emails is very wide and varied and does not require any change in the configuration options of our account, so we can use it without any fear of breaking something.

  • Adjust the browser’s zoom level. A fairly common mistake when browsing that many users make without realizing it is enlarging or reducing the size of the content displayed in the browser. The most popular solution that everyone uses when the data on the screen looks very large or very small is to zoom in the browser. The easiest way to enlarge the content of the browser is to press the Ctrl button and, without releasing it, move the mouse wheel upwards, while, if we want to reduce the size, we must slide the wheel towards us.

  • Check the content of the email. In many cases, the problem of Gmail content appearing smaller than normal is related to the content inserted into it. Attaching an image is not the same as embedding it. In the latter case, the image is displayed as the content of the email, just as it is displayed in a Word document and if it is very wide, the content of the email is adapted so that the image can be displayed. When you attach a file, it is sent independently and does not affect the design at any time.
  • Update Gmail. Sometimes, this problem is solved by reloading Gmail again in our browser, something we can do by pressing the F5 key or the button located just to the right of the key that allows us to go back. If Gmail emails appear very large or small again, it means that the problem is not an error that occurred during the loading of the website, but rather some other element that is affecting its display.
  • Disable extensions. Extensions are one of the best browser inventions, since they allow us to add new, non-existing functions. However, at the same time, they pose a problem for its operation, especially if they are not well optimized, since they can affect both the performance and the general functioning of the browser. If, no matter how much we update the Gmail website, the emails continue to be displayed, we must deactivate all the extensions and try. If the problem is solved, the next step is to activate, extension by extension, until you find which one is causing the problem.

Disable Edge browser extensions

  • Clear cache Another method that we can also try and that, in most cases, solves the problem is to open the email in a new Gmail tab in incognito mode. When using this mode, our browser will not take into account any data stored in the cache, so if the problem is related to this, it will not be repeated, so, to avoid having to resort to this trick again, we will have to Clear the cache stored in our browser and thus, the next time we access Gmail, the website will load from scratch and without presenting any display problems.
