AirDrop into your Mac Dock
If you and your friends and family all use Apple devices, AirDrop is a convenient way to quickly exchange files. AirDrop works with all types of files, such as images, documents, and even links to websites. AirDrop not only works on iPhone and iPad, but also on Mac. On the Mac there is a handy trick that allows you to access AirDrop super quickly, namely from your Dock.
Place AirDrop in Dock on your Mac
To use AirDrop you normally have to open the share menu or a separate Finder window. This can be done more easily by placing AirDrop in your Dock.
Take these steps:
- Open the Finder.
- In the menu bar, go to Go > Go to Folder.
- Copy the line below, paste it into the window and click Go:
/System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/Applications/
- A series of applications that can be used in the Finder will appear, including AirDrop. Drag this icon into the leftmost part of your Dock.
Now that AirDrop is in your Mac Dock by default, you can use the feature more quickly. Click on the icon and you will immediately be taken to the correct window. Then drag the file you want to share to the right person. You can also immediately share multiple files, for example from your desktop or from a folder in the Finder.
This way you can also easily add an icon of iCloud Drive (or another standard Apple service) to your Dock, if it is not already there. The condition is that it is on the left side of the line, so near your favorite apps. You can’t add the icon to the recent apps, which are to the right of the line. That list is automatically filled based on usage.
