Change Netflix password
If you share your Netflix account with others, there may come a time when you no longer want others to view your account. Or maybe you suspect that friends have shared your account with even more people. The best solution is to simply change your password. It may also happen that you have forgotten your Netflix password. You can then easily set a new password to avoid being locked out of your own account. In this tip we explain how to do this. Good to know: you cannot change your Netflix password via the mobile app.
- Change by email
- Change via SMS
- Log out all devices
- If you have forgotten data
- If you are locked out
Change Netflix password via email
The easiest way to change your Netflix password is to request an email through the browser. Almost every device is equipped with a browser, so that you can take action immediately:
Option 1: Forgot Netflix password
Do this if you forgot your password:
- Go to netflix.com/loginhelp.
- Select Email.
- Enter your email address and select Email me.
- In the email you receive, follow the steps to reset your password. The link remains valid for 24 hours and the new password cannot be the same as your previous one.
Didn’t receive a link to reset your password? Check whether you have entered your email address correctly. You can also check your spam folder or ensure that messages from info@mailer.netflix.com are marked as trusted. You can now request a password reset again and try again.
Option 2: Netflix password known
If you remember your password and you are logged in, you approach it differently. On the Netflix website, click on your profile picture and go to Account > Change Password. You can now change your password.
Log out all devices
If you are bothered by people who unwittingly use your account, you can easily solve this. You then ensure that all devices have to log in again with the new password that you have just set.
You arrange this on the aforementioned page Account > Change password. Check the box next to ‘Let all devices log in again with a new password’. This ensures that all devices are logged out. Only people you gave the new password can now use the account again.
Change Netflix password via SMS
You can also have an SMS sent to change your password.
- In the browser, go to netflix.com/loginhelp.
- Select Text Message (SMS).
- Enter the phone number associated with your account.
- Select Text me.
- You will receive a verification code that you must enter to reset your password. The code expires after 20 minutes.
If no telephone number is linked to your account, you will of course not be able to perform these steps. It is better to use the above method via e-mail. At a later time, you can go to the Account page to register a phone number.
Reset Netflix password if you forgot data
Do you not remember your e-mail and your password and have you not registered a telephone number on your account? Then it becomes a bit more difficult to find out your account details, but it works!
- Open netflix.com/loginhelp in your browser.
- Click on ‘I can’t remember my email address or phone number’.
- Enter first and last name. Hopefully you remember whose name the account is in.
- Enter your bank account or credit card number.
- Click Find Account.
Netflix can now help you find and regain access to your account. If it still doesn’t work, it’s best to contact Netflix Customer Service for further assistance.
If you are locked out by someone else
It may happen that someone else has kicked you out of your own Netflix account, for example by changing the password. This could have been done by a malicious person or a friend-of-a-friend who gained access to your account.
In this case, it is best to start by resetting the password via email or SMS, as explained above. However, it is possible that a malicious person has modified both, so that you no longer receive a recovery email to change the password. The only way to get your account back is to contact Netflix customer service.
Anyone with access to your account can change the login details, such as the password, the linked e-mail address, the telephone number and other personal data. So don’t just share your account with someone you don’t trust. Sharing accounts with people outside your own household is also not allowed and Netflix is taking more and more measures to prevent this.
