Facebook is an excellent social network that has many functions in addition to allowing us to stay in touch with our friends in the digital age. However, it is not fail-safe, your account may be exposed if you do not have Facebook two-step verification enabled.

If you only use your email address and password to access Facebook, it is likely that your account is exposed to possible hacks. Luckily, this social network allows you to shield accounts in more than one way.

Two-step verification is an extra verification that you need to do when you log in to Facebook from an unknown browser or device. In addition to the password, you must enter a code that validates that it is indeed you.

In the event that someone tries to access your account with only your password, they will not be able to do so, in addition to being notified when someone tries to log in via email or from Facebook notifications.

Activate Facebook two-step verification

Log in to your personal account by clicking on the top right of the page, then Settings.

Select the Security and login option.

You will be redirected to a new page where you should find the Use two-step authentication option. Select the Manage option.

Activate Facebook two-step verification

You now have a choice between two security methods: Login Codes from a third-party authentication app and Cell Phone Text Message (SMS) Codes.

Validation by mobile application

If you choose the first mobile app option, click on the edit option to configure the app that will be used to log in. This setting is useful for people who have a Smartphone and can install a code generator app like Authy or Google Authenticator.

Every time you start Facebook you must have the phone at hand to place the code that the application tells you. The interesting thing about this type of application is that the code is available for a limited time, after that time it is renewed and the previous one loses validity.

Text message validation

The best option for people who do not have a Smartphone and have no way to access a code generator application. When selecting SMS validation, you must enter your mobile phone number, selecting the country where it comes from. Facebook will send you a text message to set it up.

Once you select the option that best suits you, you will already have configured two-step verification on Facebook. If in addition to this you want to add more levels of security to your account, configure other options such as Login only from known devices and alert settings.

Unrecognized login alerts

You can be aware if someone has tried to access your account by setting alerts that inform you when an irregularity occurs in your account.

Activate Facebook two-step verification

Sign in to your account and go to Settings from the Facebook home page. Click on the top right of the screen and select Settings.

Select the Privacy option and then Security and login.

On the new page, look for the Receive alerts about unrecognized logins option. Choose if you want to receive notifications in your email address or from a secondary option.

Check your login

Within the Security and login settings you can check which devices you are logged in on. Click on the option Where you are logged in and you will see a list of all the devices where your Facebook account is logged in. From there you can tap in and out from all at the same time or just the session from a particular device.
