When we do not have the necessary knowledge and we are manipulating our PC, mobile device, printer or a USB drive, also known as a Pendrive. They can cause us certain problems that are sometimes even incomprehensible, it is for this reason that below we will tell you what you should do when you want to copy very large files to a Fat32 USB without formatting in Windows.
These are problems that sometimes seem illogical, since we want to pass a file, which is really large, 6GB, but it turns out that it doesn’t want to save it on my 16GB Pendrive.
And although it may not seem like it, this has a simple explanation, since the FAT32 format will not admit a file that has more than 5GB no matter how much free space you may have on your USB device.
This then means that files larger than 5GB are not portable, at least on these units, but this may have a solution and we will explain it to you below. But in the meantime you can see the following tutorial which shows you how to create portable programs from installed applications on Windows.
How to Copy Very Large Files to a Fat32 USB without Formatting in Windows
The Windows operating system itself offers us practical solutions to this kind of problem and what we are going to do is compress the file or divide it into pieces. And to do this, we will do the following we will create a folder in RAR archive. And in it we are going to put a copy of the original file, this will divide it into several parts.
But being in the same folder will keep them together, and this folder can be moved to your USB device, without any problem. We are going to do this in this way, we are looking for the file that cannot be saved on the FAT32 drive. We select it with the mouse cursor and click to display a menu and in it you will choose the Add to file option.
The next step is to choose the RAR option in the archive format, you will find an arrow next to Split into volumes, bytes. Now you must choose the option CD700: 700mb. This action will create a new file for each 700mbps drive. What are we doing with this procedure, it is simple we are dividing your file into smaller fractions.
These will then be rejoined, now the next step is to click on the OK option and you will place the folder containing the separated files on your FAT32 drive. And that’s it, you already have the folder with your file in the drive that previously didn’t allow you to save it.
Another method to copy very large files to USB Fat32 without formatting in Windows
Now we will apply the same method but now using ZIP File and we will follow very similar steps to those applied before. To get started, select the file that cannot save to the FAT32 drive, then click on it and choose the Add to file option. The next thing you are going to do is click the OK button.
Now it will show you a new menu and in it, you are going to make the necessary adjustments for compression but here you only have to change the File format, where you will change from RAR to ZIP. Everything else that appears in this window can be left the same without making any changes. The only difference is that the compressed file will appear in the same folder where the original is located.
The last step to perform is to delete or remove the uncompressed copy of the file and the file that is compressed should be moved to the FAT32 drive.
You will notice that the download will start without any problem and the download time will depend on the size of the file. And so we end this article that teaches you how to copy very large files to a Fat32 USB without formatting in Windows.
