It is important that you configure the new document according to the layout you have in mind for the design; you can check the “Preview” option at the bottom of the window, so you can see how the changes are reflected in the document.
From this dialog box, the first option to configure is the “Document value”, you can choose “default” or “custom”. If you decide to leave default, it will automatically change to “custom” when you adjust the parameters.
Then select the quality of the document, here we select if it is “Web”, “Print” or a document for a “Mobile” device.
The measurements will be presented in millimeters and we determine if a document will be if it will be for print, web or mobile. You can also enter the number of pages your document will have; the number will vary according to what you are going to design, from a digital magazine to a flyer.
You can define which of the pages will be the main page, and determine if it will have opposite pages; which will be useful in the case of printing it as a book.
The size of the page is defined by you, using the arrows (Up +, Down -); and you can even save those values for a future job. You can also choose standard sizes from the list: Letter, Legal, Tabloid, A4, A5, etc.
Another option that you should take into account when determining the properties of your new document is the orientation, you can decide between portrait or landscape.
Do you want the content in columns? Determine how many, using the arrows or writing the quantity directly in the box; the separation distance between the columns will be determined by the “Gutter”.
The margins will be predetermined; however, since you are creating a document according to the design you have in mind, you can determine the size of these as you like.
If you uncheck the lock box, all four values will change at the same time; the “Bleed” will be at zero millimeters, you can also modify it. When you determine its measurement, a red line will be displayed that frames everything that will be visible on the print; don’t cross that line.
The values in this new document could be useful for other work; if so, you can save it, how? Next to the Document value box, you have two buttons, you can click on the first one, “Save document value” and assign it the name you want.
