As with any other networked device, at some point you will need to locate the Roku device’s IP. Not in vain, this device requires to be connected to a Wifi connection and at the same time with Internet access to work, since any action that uses the Internet will need an IP address.
Knowing the IP can be crucial both to troubleshoot some types of failures and to perform some custom configuration. So, if you still haven’t been able to locate your Roku’s IP address, here are a couple of easy methods.
Identify Roku device IP natively
This is another way of saying that you will ask the device itself for its IP, pretty simple right? You just have to know where to look and for that there are the following steps:
Step One: Turn on your Roku device.
It is not enough that your Roku device is connected to the network, it must be active if you want it to be able to give you the information you are looking for. Either turn on your Roku easily or Many are in standby while not in use, so simply access the screen.
Second step: go into settings
On all Roku devices that have a controller, you can find a “Settings” button, you just have to press it to access the respective menu.
Third step: Device information
Once in configuration, you should find the “About” or “Information about” section. In it you will find useful details such as the technical specifications of the equipment.
This is where you can view the IP of the Roku device you are on. If it is a Roku TV, you can find this section as a subsection of the “System” option.
Identify IP with Google Chrome
That’s right, thanks to Google’s own browser extension you can monitor the IP of all your Roku at all times. Something extremely useful when you are in another room or for some reason you cannot access the device at the moment. It’s called Remoku, but how to use it? Follow these steps:
First step: Download the extension
In this sense, you just have to go to the Chrome web store and search for “Remoku”. The default option will be the application you are looking for, which will work as a kind of remote control, but from your PC.
Second step: Install the extension
By default, when you download an extension from Chrome, the browser itself will ask you if you want to install it. You will naturally say yes, following the instructions that follow.
Third step: Run the extension
You can find it in the upper right corner of your browser. When you start it, you will see two sets of boxes in which you must specify the necessary information that will indicate the IP of the Roku device.
Fourth step: Enter the range and quantity
This refers to the IP range that corresponds to your network and would be the ones shared by all the devices connected to your network.
The default data is usually correct by default, but if you have customized it you must correct it. With knowing the IP of your other equipment, you will know what to place. By quantity, it refers to how many Rokus are connected to the network, that is, to the range that you have specified.
Fifth step: Scan
Now you just have to press the “Scan” button and the program will search for all the devices connected to the specified range. Once found, it will show them through a list that also indicates the IP of each one.
Access from your router
Another way to know the IP of the Roku device is to enter the configuration of the router with which you supply the internet. In this sense, the options can be many, since each manufacturer has its own platforms. Generally the procedure is simple, you must know the IP address of your router and enter it in the browser and in this way you will access its configuration.
Among the different options that you will see is a list of all the devices connected to your network with their respective IPs. Search this list for your Roku device and you will quickly know its IP address.
