If you are browsing the App Store because you are looking for a good new app or game, the reviews can be useful. The reviews from other users can say something about the quality of an app. But of course you only want to see the most useful reviews. Fortunately, in the App Store you can sort reviews by most useful or most recent and mark App Store reviews as useful yourself. If you see a review that you think is incorrect, you can also mark it as spam.
Mark App Store reviews as helpful or spam
By marking App Store reviews as helpful, you help other users rate an app correctly. Any iOS user can mark a review in the App Store as helpful with a simple action. Reporting spam is also very easy this way. You go through these steps:
- Open the App Store.
- Find the app in question.
- On the app page, scroll down to Ratings & Reviews.
- Optionally, tap Show all and choose a review that you want to mark as useful.
- Long press on the review in question until a menu appears.
- Now choose from one of the three options: Helpful, Not Helpful or Report a Problem.
- With the Report a problem option you can choose from various options.
When viewing App Store reviews, you can also filter by, for example, the most useful reviews, so that the reviews so marked are at the top. You do this as follows:
- Go to the Ratings & Reviews section of an app in the App Store.
- At the top right of this section, tap Show all.
- By default, the sorting is set to Most Helpful. Tap to sort by other criteria.
Sorting and highlighting App Store reviews in this way can, in some cases, give you a much better idea of an app. Although App Store reviews are useful for determining the quality of an app, they are not always correct. So the highlighting options should make the App Store reviews a lot more useful.
Developers can also respond directly to reviews in the App Store. Although the review section is not a place for support, a developer can address complaints and problems that users report in a review of an app. As soon as a developer responds to your review, you will receive an email. You can then adjust your review if desired, for example if a problem has been resolved or if the text in your review appears to be incorrect.
