A Chromecast with Google TV provides Smart TV functions on a conventional television. Among the many advantages of this type of device is the possibility of watching 4K Telegram content on the big screen at home. This is a process that may seem complicated initially, but it will not be if you follow the step by step that we teach you in this article.
The great advantage of Telegram over its great competitor, WhatsApp, is that it allows you to share audiovisual content in 4K. Because of this feature, many users prefer this instant messaging app over the most used one, Meta, especially when they have to transfer multimedia files.
Unfortunately, Telegram content cannot be sent directly to a TV with Chromecast or any analogue such as Fire TV. Those who want to watch a video that has been sent to them through the platform on their television will have to resort to third-party applications.
How to watch Telegram videos with Chromecast
Although Telegram is not currently available as an application for television, it is possible to enjoy the videos that appear on the platform in a very simple way. The first step will be to download an application to cast something from your phone to Chromecast. There are several options such as Web Video Cast or Cast for Chromecast & TV Cast, both available in the iPhone App Store and the Android Play Store.
Once you have installed the app, the steps to follow are as follows:
- Enter the Telegram application and go to the video you want to watch from the TV.
- When the video is downloaded within the app, it will allow you to share it with your contacts or with other applications. To do this, you must click on the three dots in the upper right corner of the video and select the “Open in” option.
- Several places will be displayed where you can send the multimedia file. Choose the installed app to send videos to the Chromecast (in my case it is Web Video Cast).
- The screen will be redirected to the application and several actions will appear. Click “Connect.”
- Then, click on the Chromecast option.
- Automatically, the content you want to see will appear on the television screen. All you have to do is heat some popcorn in the microwave and enjoy the video.
How to make sure the video is 4K?
Not all content sent via Telegram is 4K. Although the instant messaging platform allows you to send files in that quality, there are users who send videos or images with a lower resolution.
Unfortunately, to find out, we will have to download the document because Telegram does not tell us when a video is 4K. Once we have the multimedia file on the phone, the process to discover its quality is very easy:
- Enter the gallery of your smartphone
- Find the recently downloaded video and click on it
- The process may vary depending on the device, but on my phone there are three dots in the bottom right corner to access different photo adjustment functions.
- Select the “Details” option. There, the phone will inform you what the resolution is among other information.
- If the video is 4K, it will have to have a native resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels.
However, it is not enough for the video to be 4K to ensure that the experience we are going to have when watching the content is that. It is also key that the television screen is compatible with this standard and that the Chromecast is also compatible.
If the specifications of the stick or television indicate that the quality is HD or Full HD, you will only be able to see the content in that resolution. Only TVs labeled Ultra High Definition (UHD), 4K or 4K UHD will be able to see the content of that Telegram standard as in the original video.
