I am a Movistar customer and I want to sign up for the new €50 O2 rate. Do I have to install a new fibre optic cable?

Just a few weeks ago, O2 surprised everyone by announcing a new convergent rate that included 1GB of fibre, 200GB of mobile data and, in addition, Movistar Plus+. All for €50. A very attractive option that has aroused the interest of even Movistar fibre customers. But do we have to make a new installation if we are interested?

O2 is one of the telephone operators most popular in our country. Over the past few years, the company has accustomed us to a active trade policy which allows us to enjoy price reductions or improvements in our regularly contracted services, making your catalogue of products and services increasingly attractive.

Recently, however, he surprised everyone by announcing a new rate that included the subscription to Movistar Plus+. This is the convergent pack that offers 1GB of fiber, 200GB of mobile, unlimited calls and, in addition, the aforementioned streaming service from the blue operator. A very interesting proposal that has even caught the attention of current Movistar customers. But is it necessary to carry out a new fibre installation in this case?

No, you don’t have to do a new installation

O2 and Movistar are operators of the Telefónica group. Both use the same network and infrastructure, but offer different rates and services depending on the target audience. This means that the conditions for switching from one operator to another are different from what would happen if we were to port to any other company, as is already the case with many of their mobile services.

In the case of fiber, the company policy follows the same direction. If we have a Movistar fibre installation in our home, the installation itself and the current equipment will also work for us with O2. In this way, the process of changing from one company to another is greatly simplified, being an aspect to be valued by all Movistar customers who may be interested in this new rate, as stated by this user from X:

@mary10760 Hi, if you already have fiber with Movistar, you don’t need to do any installation with O2. You just have to request portability with the rate you want and the change is automatic. Regards.

Automatic transmission

As stated by O2, the change is made automatically once Let’s start the portability with the rate we want. In this case, the new convergent rate of 50 euros.

Remember that to start this portability we can use the different channels that O2 has enabled for this: such as the customer service number 1551 or the website itself. Once the change process is effective, the only thing we will have to do is activate the Movistar Plus+ subscription and link it to our profile.

If we do not have any current subscription to Movistar Plus+, we will have to access this link and enter the user code that will appear in our O2 profile through the app or the website.

If we already have an account on the streaming platform, we must also take this code and enter it in the “My subscription” section that we will find on the left side of the Movistar Plus+ platform. The plan will be automatically changed and in the next renewal cycle we will not have to pay any fees to enjoy all the content offered by the blue operator platform.
