If you are having trouble opening Discord on your PC, don’t worry, don’t panic. It is a common error that can be caused by various causes, such as problems with system files. Below we’ll show you some solutions to help you run the app, connect with your friends, and play with proper communication.

In this article, we offer you a series of proven solutions that Discord developers themselves and users have already verified. The problem may be found among corrupt files on your computer or in certain network configurations that prevent the connection correctly, but everything has a solution. And, if you have not solved it with the most common solutions, we also bring you alternatives that many times any user can overlook.

Restart Discord and your PC

Sometimes, the problem of Discord not opening can be solved with a simple restart of the application or, where appropriate, the PC, but to do this, it is not enough to close the application from the “X”. Better, simply close the program from the Windows task manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc), and try to run it again. This could reset certain commands that your PC is not interpreting for whatever reason. If this does not solve it, choose to restart the PC to start certain essential services that could be interfering with the execution of the application.

Delete Discord cache and corrupt files

The first option is the ideal solution if our PC has accidentally generated temporary files that have become corrupt. This not only happens with Discord, but with any application that requires memory on our computer. To delete the cache, we have to close the application, as we indicated before, from the Task Manager. Now press Windows + R, type %appdata% and click “OK”. This will send us directly to the “Roaming” folder, and here you can find the Discord folder to delete it. Don’t worry, this does not delete the program, but it will cause the Discord cache, when you open it again, to be rebuilt from scratch correctly.

Reset your DNS settings

This requires a series of very simple steps that can unblock connections interrupted for any reason. To do this, as before, press Windows + R, and then type cmd to open the command prompt. The next step is to enter the following commands that we are going to provide you one by one and in this order, pressing Enter after each one: ipconfig /flushdns, ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renewand finally, close the command prompt window and try to open Discord, because it is more than possible that any errors have been fixed by now.

Disable proxies

Proxies, incorrectly configured, can block the application’s access to its own servers, so it doesn’t hurt to try this solution. First, open Settings in Windows, directly from the file explorer finder. Go to Network & Internet and select Proxy from the left menu. Here you will find the “Manual proxy configuration” option, so what you need to do is disable the “Use a proxy server” option. Once you’ve followed the steps, save and close the window, and it’s time to try your luck restarting Discord to see if the problem has been resolved.

Other solutions we might have overlooked

If the previous methods have not put an end to your headache, it doesn’t hurt to try some alternatives that we could have ignored. One of them is that you try to access Discord from its web version in your browser, which can be useful to discern if the problem is on your own PC or something may be happening on the servers themselves or your account.

Another quick solution is to reinstall Discord. To do this, uninstall it from Apps and features in Windows settings and download the latest version from the official Discord page.

Finally, make sure that your PC’s date and time are well synchronized with the rest of the world, as this can cause permanent connection problems with the app’s servers. It seems like a joke, but it wouldn’t be the first case that happens.

We hope we have helped resolve the problem so that you can play with friends again or talk to that person you need without any problem.
