LibreOffice continues to fight to win the trust of Word, Excel and PowerPoint users. This free and open source office suite offers users everything they could need when writing documents, creating spreadsheets or slideshows. Today is a great day for users who rely on The Document Foundation’s suite, as they have just released a new version of their office suite.

Three weeks ago, The Document Foundation released a version of the suite: 24.8. This version focused primarily on improving the security and privacy of the suite, as well as improving compatibility with documents created with Microsoft Office. Now, three weeks later, the company has just released a new version of this suite, focused on maintenance: LibreOffice 24.8.1.

What’s new and changed in LibreOffice 24.8.1

This new version of the OpenSource office suite does not stand out for bringing major changes and new features. It is a minor update, focused mainly on correcting some bugs, problems and errors detected in the program and that could affect the correct functioning of the suite.

Linux LibreOffice

In total, this new version of the program has corrected no less than 89 bugs, problems and errors detected by the developers themselves or by users who have reported them. These corrections can be seen in detail through the list of changes of the program. For example, there are several bug fixes in the “FILEOPEN” function of “DOCX”, as well as in the “EDITING” function of “MS ACCESS”, which are focused on improving compatibility with Microsoft documents. There are also general improvements when opening PDFs, and many improvements in the internal functions of the program itself. What we do not find, at least on the surface, are security fixes, so in this sense we should not have any problems.

Following this maintenance release, The Document Foundation has already started working on the next update, which will also be a maintenance update, to improve the overall stability of the program on all operating systems. The next update, 24.8.2, should arrive with further stability and performance improvements in the middle of next month, so we still have to wait.

Download to suite

Users who already have LibreOffice installed on their computer can update to this new version very easily. All you have to do is open the program’s wizard and search for new updates so that you can install the new version via OTA. The download is quite fast, and in just a couple of minutes you should have your entire suite updated.

LibreOffice Launcher

On the other hand, those users who do not have LibreOffice installed on their computer can download the new version completely free of charge to start working with it. All we have to do is go to The Document Foundation website and download the version that corresponds to our operating system. In just a few minutes we should have the program installed on our computer. And we can start working with it.
