As much as streaming platforms are already more expensive than ever, the truth is that the average spending of Spanish families is surprising. And not precisely because it is short, but rather the opposite. Many will think that fewer and fewer people subscribe to the platforms, but in reality this is not the case.
The consumption of streaming platforms in our country does not stop increasing every year. So much so, that a good part of users enjoy more than one service at a time in their homes, so average spending does not stop rising either. Without a doubt, a most notable fact, especially if the increase in prices is taken into account. To give you an idea, the cost of plans has risen more than 21% since 2020, according to a recent study by Roams.
Almost 300 euros a year in streaming
In recent years, the different streaming platforms that can be seen in our country have increased in price. And, sometimes, more than necessary, according to the public opinion of the subscribers themselves. However, these different increases in prices have not made people stop subscribing, quite the opposite, because consumption does not stop increasing. There are even measures that have caused subscriptions to many platforms to increase, such as the clear example of prohibiting the sharing of accounts between users who do not live under the same roof.
According to the latest data collected, whatever the reason, Spanish families spend on average up to 286 euros per year on streaming platforms such as Netflix, Prime Video, Movistar Plus+, Max, Disney+… among many other alternatives that are available in our country.
Furthermore, to this surprising fact, we must add the fact that up to 12 million homes in Spain have at least one streaming subscription. Not counting those people who pay for more than one or two platforms each month. For example, up to 21.2% of Spaniards say they have subscribed to up to 4 platforms at the same time, while 35.2% prefer to have a single subscription.
More plans and without sharing an account
The platforms’ strategy has been varying from a few years ago to now. Previously, account sharing was one of the favorite options. Even platforms like Netflix were proud of this type of actions through their social networks. However, times change and so do the strategies to follow.
Another action that has also attracted attention and that has had to do with the growth of streaming in Spain is the fact of adding more subscription plans. Max or Disney+, for example, only had one subscription. Instead, they have followed in the footsteps of others like Netflix. So it is possible to have more options to subscribe, including the criticized plan with ads that is a success in all the streaming services it is on. All this has meant that the platforms do not stop rising, hence the average spending of Spaniards is close to 300 euros per year.
