Nissan announces the launch, finally, of the hybrid version of the Nissan Juke, a long-awaited car by the dealer network and which complements the existing versions equipped with the 115 hp gasoline engine, the only one available to date for this model. This new Juke incorporates the same hybrid system that we already know in the Renault Captur (video test of this model at this link) with which it shares the platform, and in the Renault Clio (video comparison of this model with the Toyota Yaris) and Arkana (video comparison of this model with the Citroën C4).

The Nissan Juke Hybrid is practically identical to the model that was already available.

This car combines a naturally aspirated gasoline engine with 94 hp and 148 Nm of torque and two electric motors, one for propulsion with 36 kw (49 hp) and another that acts as a starter and a 15 kw generator. According to the brand, and pending final homologation, this version of the Juke, which increases the power available up to now by 25%, should reduce the urban consumption of its gasoline brother by 40% and consumption by up to 20%. on the highway.

As in its Renault siblings, the hybrid system includes a multi-modal, low-friction, clutchless automatic gearbox that allows the vehicle to always be started in 100% electric mode and uses the second electric motor to synchronize the turning speed of the vehicle. motor with the gear to engage. In this way, a very smooth operation is achieved, eliminating, in part, the sensation of little acceleration that the usual CVT-type gearboxes in hybrids generate in some of their rivals.

This new hybrid version has a 140 hp engine and a 4-speed clutchless automatic gearbox.

The system tries at all times to maximize the use of the electric propulsion motor and as long as there is a charge in the battery, the driver can use the EV mode at will for a short period of time and as long as they do not exceed 55 km/h. . The driver can also choose between 3 driving modes: Eco, Normal and Sport with which the response of the accelerator pedal, steering assistance, air conditioning and regenerative braking are modified. In Sport mode, for example, the highest possible braking load is activated to fully recharge the battery and have power available to help the thermal engine during acceleration.

Nissan also announces the availability of the e-Pedal system already known in the Nissan Leaf and that allows “driving with a single pedal” since when you lift your foot off the accelerator, a moderate braking of 0.15g is generated, which is very useful, especially in the city. and that manages to regenerate the car battery to the maximum.

Aesthetic changes

The Nissan Juke Hybrid will arrive like water in May at dealerships that will be able to offer a somewhat more powerful version and, above all, with an Eco label.

The arrival of this new hybrid version brings a series of small changes in the appearance of this car, among which are the Hybrid logos arranged both on the sides and on the tailgate. The front grille also changes, with the addition of some black pieces and the presence of the brand’s new logo, recently redesigned. In the lower part of the bumper, design changes have been made to improve airflow and the car has been fitted with an active grille that opens only as far as necessary to cool the radiator when needed.

Other aerodynamic changes have also been introduced just in front of the wheels, 17-inch two-tone wheels are mounted, which will also be available for gasoline models and optionally, 19-inch wheels inspired by those of the new Nissan electric model will be offered. Ariya (video of this car at this link).

The closed grill and the upper piece in black color characterize this hybrid Juke.

In the passenger compartment we will observe the usual changes in this type of vehicle, with instrumentation that reports the status of the battery and a menu on the central screen to view the energy flows. Another novelty is the presence of the buttons to activate the electric mode and the e-Pedal mode.

The trunk, as usual, is the main victim of the conversion of the Juke into a hybrid model. From the original 422 liters, this version goes to 354 from the double bottom of the trunk, which in this version houses the 1.2 kWh battery. With the rear seats folded down, the boot capacity is estimated at 1,237 litres. Nissan has not yet communicated the prices for Spain or the different finishes in which this version will be marketed.
