Why has Hyundai achieved the high February sales number? We analyze what has led the South Korean manufacturer to reap such good results.
Hyundai has been experiencing a good moment in the Spanish market for some months now, despite the crisis caused by the shortage of microchips. The Asian manufacturer chains month after month good registration results in our country and, although February has not been entirely special, it continues to attract attention. But why has Hyundai achieved the high sales number for February?
Already in 2021, Hyundai managed to position itself as one of the strongest brands in the market. At the end of the year, the South Korean company would have achieved 57,508 registrations, a figure that placed it as the fifth best-selling brand in Spain, behind Volkswagen (61,724), Toyota (62,329), Peugeot (67,266) and Seat (70,523).
Why has Hyundai achieved the high February sales number?
This level of registrations allowed Hyundai to increase its sales by 26.7% compared to the same period in 2020, a year that was especially marked by the closures of dealerships and factories as a result of the ravages caused by the pandemic.
If we analyze this figure more closely we can see that there is a model that drives Hyundai registrations above the rest. It is the Hyundai Tucson, which in 2021 alone achieved 21,258 units sold in Spain, which earned it to become the second best-selling model in 2021, only surpassed by the Seat Arona (21,946).
The new Tucson accounted for 36.9% of total Hyundai registrations in 2021, far from the 21.2% achieved by its little brother, the Hyundai Kona, or 16.3% of the brand’s third best-selling model , the Hyundai i20.
Similarly, 2022 looks set to follow the same path that the Asian manufacturer set out last year. So far this year (January and February), the Tucson has already achieved 2,237 registrations, 0.18% more than in the same period of the previous year. And February was the best of the two months, with 1,353 units registered in just those 28 days.
Hyundai has accumulated 6,431 units sold in the first two months of 2022, 37.47% more than in the same period of the previous year, ranking as the sixth best-selling brand in Spain this year behind Volkswagen (7,300), Seat ( 7,857), Kia (8,312), Peugeot (8,691) and Toyota (10,997). And the Tucson is responsible for 34.8% of those sales.
Only in February, the Hyundai Tucson has managed to register 1,353 of the 3,689 units sold by the manufacturer in Spain. This means that 36.67% of the cars sold by Hyundai in February were Tucsons, or what amounts to the same thing, one in three Hyundais sold in our market is a Tucson.
Why is the Hyundai Tucson successful?
But why is Tucson so successful in Spain? In the first place, because Hyundai (like Kia) does not suffer as much from the shortage of microchips as the rest of the brands in the market. South Korean firms have a certain preference to access these chips, since most of the production is concentrated in South Korea.
On the other hand, the fourth generation of the Hyundai Tucson has proven to be a real success due to its great value for money. In addition to offering an avant-garde and attractive design for the buyer, who is thirsty for SUV models, the new Tucson is available with an assortment of varied engines and a range of finishes with a very complete standard equipment.

Hybrid). Seven-speed manual and DCT automatic transmissions are offered, as well as front-wheel drive and 4×4 versions.
As if this were not enough, the range of the new Tucson also includes a 230 hp hybrid version and a 265 hp plug-in hybrid variant with 4×4 drive and automatic transmission that has a range in 100% electric mode of more than 60 kilometers. Of course, it benefits from the DGT’s 0 Emissions environmental label.
A varied range with different levels of equipment (Klass, Maxx, Tecno, N Line and Style) allows access to a complete assortment of standard equipment that makes it a benchmark in the mid-size SUV segment. In addition, it offers up to 620 liters of luggage space, which can be expanded to 1,800 liters by simply folding down the rear seats.
And then there is the price. The new Tucson is available from 29,225 euros. However, Hyundai offers some interesting discounts that makes accessing the Asian SUV more attractive. Taking advantage of the financing options, the new Tucson is for sale from 25,325 euros with the 150 hp 1.6 T-GDi engine, manual gearbox and Klass finish.
In short, the Hyundai Tucson triumphs because it is a round product that has reached the precise segment at the exact moment. This is driving Hyundai in registrations in Spain, in a year in which it aspires to repeat the good results obtained in 2021.
