In the different operating systems, which of course includes Windows, the browser is one of the most important programs that we use most frequently. Although Microsoft software tries to impose its own project on us, we don’t always have to use Edge.
Needless to say, the software giant’s aforementioned operating system is one of the most important projects of the many it has under its belt. Hence, on many occasions it uses Windows to promote and even force the use of other own projects. This is the case, for example, with the Edge web browser, which tries to get us to use it by all means.
It is precisely for this reason that Microsoft itself includes this pre-installed program when we start using the operating system from scratch. Likewise, it is configured by default to open the default links that we find throughout Windows, something that almost no one likes. What’s more, the vast majority of users prefer to use Google’s proposal for these tasks, we are referring to Chrome. Hence they have to figure out how to establish this program and use it by default in Windows 11.
Surely many of you have found yourself faced with the unpleasant situation that, even if you set another default browser, Windows 11 continues to open links with the aforementioned Edge. That is precisely why below we will show you how to force the operating system to use the browser that we establish. Basically this means that if we find ourselves in this situation, we are going to use simple open source third-party software.
Make Windows 11 use your preferred browser and forget Edge
For these tasks that we are telling you about, we can use the program called EdgeDeflector. Here we find free and open source software that will not solve the aforementioned problem. In this way we can establish any other program with these characteristics, such as Chrome, Opera, Brave or Firefox, so that it opens all the links in Windows 11.
Furthermore, it must be taken into consideration that the implementation of this application is very simple, as we will show you below. To use our default Internet browser in all the links that we open in the Microsoft system, we only have to download and install the aforementioned program, EdgeDeflector.
Next, and to execute it, we access the System Configuration application, for example through the Win + I key combination. In the window that appears, we go to the Applications section and select Default Applications. We scroll down in that same window and locate the section that says Choose default values by link type. Now all we have to do is locate the Microsoft Edge entry and click on the program icon. At that moment we will see that we can choose the EdgeDeflector option, where we click.
Once we have saved the changes, from that moment on when we click on a link in Windows 11, the browser that we have established will open by default. This way we can put it aside and forget about Edge once and for all.
