Updated 03/10 by Telva Somoza: We have already been able to test the new BMW X3 and X4, which were officially presented at the Chengdu Motor Show in China (August 27) and the Munich Motor Show (from 7 to 12 August). September) for the European market. The first units were supposed to arrive at the end of last year, but the production in Spartanburg (USA) and Rosslyn (South Africa) has made us wait longer than necessary, also to be able to tell you about its commercial and equipment offer together with the prices. , which start from the 52,600 of the X3 sDrive 18d XLine. All available now at your dealers.

BMW renews the X3 and X4 with an aesthetic and equipment redesign as a half-life facelift.

This model is the only one that was not raised from the beginning in the range of the new X3 and X4, which were sold as only all-wheel drive. However, and as a more accessible model, the 150 hp diesel sDrive will continue to be maintained. In addition, it helps us to explain a strategy that the Bavarian firm will follow for this launch: less is more. The client will be able to personalize his X3 and X4 but he will do it from the xLine equipment level, better equipped with technology from the beginning. The most desired X3 M and X4 M

During the brief contact we were able to drive a 510 hp BMW X3 M Competition.

Special mention deserves the BMW X3 M of 109,300 euros and X4 M 111,300 euros, along with its Competition versions of 510 CV with prices of 118,400 and 120,400 euros respectively. During the brief presentation I made a section of curves at the wheel of the BMW X3 M and any words fall short. As we have been told from the brand itself, these SUVs are usually the ugly ducklings of M circuit experiences for customers. However, and after driving them thoroughly, they end up becoming the success of the day. It is not for less, as Joan Dalmau explains to us in this video test.

Update after update, its Block 6 inline continues to outdo itself with supercar performance. It reaches 650 Nm between 2,750 and 5,5000 rpm to improve its 0 to 100 km/h in 0.3 seconds, which signs it in 3.8 seconds. In this way, the BMW X3 M Competition and X4 M Competition ensure sensations of scandal with a top speed of 250 km/h that you can limit up to 285 km/h thanks to the M Driver’s Package. Of course, what makes these M the best SUVs on the market, in my opinion, is their incredible ability to eliminate, with a stroke of the accelerator, any doubt about their stability, impeccable cornering and radical response of their chassis.

The BMW X4 M and X3 M manage to convey the sporty essence and surprise anyone with their effectiveness.

We also got behind the wheel of the plug-in hybrid variant, the 292 hp BMW X3 xDrive30e that we talked about at length during its launch. Its driving is truly pleasant, as well as effective at times of increased power demand.

The route took place through the area of El Vellón, Torrelaguna, Berrueco and Rascafría which, as many of you know, is synonymous with curves and speed for which I divinely defended myself despite having only the power of the thermal engine (184 CV) when exhausting the 109 CV of the electric leaving the capital. It is a good alternative as a family vehicle, meeting the needs of significant savings when driving efficiently, but also that dynamic and sensory part that you expect from a Bavarian model.

The BMW X3 and X4 incorporate, for the first time, the Driving Assistant Professional as an option.

Although it is true that the inertias increase notably, compared to the X3 M even more, the bodywork overcomes any trouble that may befall a driver to use. Even more so if we take into account the arsenal of ADAS (driving and safety aids) that are added to the car in this latest update, with the Driving Assistant Professional available, for the first time, as an option for the BMW X3 and X4.

The best? To be able to disconnect any intrusion by simply pressing the button that is under the central screen, just between the two air conditioning vents, with a car surrounded by a green circle that turns red if you do not have help.

The new X3 and X4

The most significant changes at the rear are found in the 3D type pilots, in a new skid plate and in the better integrated exhaust outlets.

As I explained before, the new range structure ensures greater clarity and simplification. The new range structure ensures greater clarity and simplification. The M Sport package and M trims are available as an alternative to the xLine trim, now standard with exclusive X elements.

The new front and rear of the X3 are now visually more robust. For its part, the BMW X4 adopts the front of the X3 and adds its own character with the unique grille finished in a mesh design and a particularly dynamic rear.

In the slat in the center of the grill, which is a single module, we find the camera for the ADAS.

The grille is larger than before and is now a one-piece frame. In addition, a black bar is added -in which the camera is located if it is installed- ensures visual separation from the grill. The headlights are narrower and feature full LED technology as standard. In addition to the optional adaptive LED headlights with Matrix function (standard on the BMW X4), laser headlights (BMW Laserlight) with a range of up to 650 meters are now also available as an option.

The front bumper has a new design, with vertical air intakes, flatter surfaces painted in body color and a new skid plate.

At the rear we find new X3 LED taillights finished in a black outline, with a narrower light signature and integrated horizontal indicators. A new underride guard and larger, flush tailpipe trims are also fitted.

The rear of the X3 opens the new optical groups, something that does not occur in the X4.

Customers will have a total of eleven body paints to choose from for the X3 and X4, including new Skyscraper Gray metallic, Brooklyn Gray metallic available with the M Sport package, and BMW Individual Aventurine Red and Tanzanite Blue paints. The new Piedmont Red metallic paint is available exclusively for the BMW X4 and, for the first time, there is also a choice of numerous BMW Individual paints for both models, including matte paints such as Frozen Deep Grey.

Another novelty in this facelift is the reduction of complexity in equipment lines and optional extras to allow customers to make a clearer and simpler configuration.

Thanks to this, the infotainment screen with touch function is now 10.25 inches as standard, although a 12.3-inch version will also be available as an option.

The new equipment options allow the installation of a digital instrument panel. The center console is that of the Series 4 and now the multimedia screen is 10.25 inches as standard.

Both models inherit the new central console of the current BMW 4 Series (See video proof of the BMW 4 Series) where the BMW controller, the gear lever, the engine start button, the buttons for the start/stop system, electric parking brake, hill descent control and driving modes.

Standard equipment now also includes sports seats with perforated Sensatec upholstery, as well as automatic climate control with 3-zone control.

As for the available mechanics, the three gasoline engines now also have 48-volt micro-hybrid technology (like the diesel ones) that offers an electric power of 8 kW (11 CV) with which performance is improved and You get a slight reduction in consumption. In addition, the BMW X3 xDrive30e has a plug-in hybrid drive.

Now the gasoline versions also incorporate 48V micro-hybridization.

The BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system and the 8-speed Steptronic transmission are standard. The BMW X3 M40i and M40d models, as well as all versions of the BMW X4, incorporate the 8-speed Steptronic Sport gearbox as standard (in the rest of the versions it is optional), with the paddles on the steering wheel and the Launch Control system.

For the first time the Driving Assistant Professional is available as an option for the BMW X3 and X4, while the optional Parking Assistant now includes the Reversing Assistant.

With the BMW Live Cockpit Professional (optional) a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a central information display of the same size are installed, as well as the Head-Up Display that is offered as an option.

The X4 and X3 are now available at Spanish dealerships.

Smartphone connectivity is enhanced through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with Amazon Alexa integration. For its part, the intelligent personal assistant (BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant) has additional functions: it can now be used to regulate the air conditioning, open and close the windows and change driving modes, for example.

Finally, with BMW’s operating system 7.0 and remote software updates, the BMW X3 and BMW X4 are kept up-to-date with the latest software at all times.
