Do you want to reset the AirPods? Resetting to factory settings can solve persistent problems with the AirPods, such as a faster draining charging case, connection problems or a crackling sound from the earphones. In this tip you can read exactly how to do that.

This is how you reset AirPods (Pro).

  1. Make sure both AirPods are in the charging case.
  2. On your iPhone, go to Settings > Bluetooth and tap the i icon behind the AirPods. Tap Forget this device.
  3. Open the cover and press and hold the configuration button on the back of the charging case for at least 15 seconds.
  4. Check whether the light in the charging case flashes orange a few times and then white. The AirPods have now been reset.

The steps are the same for all models. Resetting your AirPods Pro works in the same way.

Please note that after resetting you will need to re-pair all your devices before you can use the AirPods again. Also keep in mind that you will have to adjust certain settings again, such as tapping the AirPods for Siri or music controls. Reset AirPods Max

Do you want to reset or restore the AirPods Max to factory settings? Which can! For persistent problems, it may help to reset the headphones or completely disconnect them from your iCloud account. The latter is recommended if you have to hand in your AirPods Max for repairs, have sold them second-hand or want to return them to Apple.

This is how you can reset the AirPods Max, without losing any settings and remaining linked to your account:

  1. Make sure the battery of the AirPods Max is not completely empty.
  2. Press and hold the side button and the Digital Crown until the status light on the right earcup starts flashing orange.
  3. The headphones will now restart.

Pairing AirPods Max.

Here’s how to reset your AirPods Max to factory settings:

  1. Make sure the battery of the AirPods Max is not completely empty.
  2. Press and hold the side button and the Digital Crown for 15 seconds.
  3. The status light on the right ear cup will start flashing orange and then turn white.
  4. The headphones are now disconnected from your account.

Why reset your AirPods?

Resetting can also help with all kinds of other problems. For example, in January 2017 there were battery problems with the storage box of the AirPods. Another AirPods problem that can occur is a crackling sound in the AirPods or a broken connection. In that case, resetting your AirPods could do the trick, but you could also look at other Bluetooth devices in your area. Turning Bluetooth on your device off and on could also help.
