The last appearance of the president of RTVE has served to indicate what the next steps will be to follow with TVE’s La 2, announcing new programs for the coming months.
ConcepciĆ³n Cascajosa, the interim president of the RTVE Corporation, gave several clues this Tuesday about the public company’s plans to revitalize the ‘La 2’ channel. He did so within the framework of an appearance in the RTVE parliamentary commission, in which he took stock of the last quarter, as well as commented on the next Olympic Games or the signing of David Broncano to bring ‘La Resistencia’ to the public television.
Cascajosa has indicated that, from RTVE, they want La 2 to once again be the reference channel for live music, and to revitalize its popularity through the claim #La2EsMĆŗsica. To do this, they are going to make a commitment to bring more live concerts to the network, taking advantage of the dates of international bands in Spain this summer.
Thus, they want to invite more viewers to watch La 2 with an ambitious offer of retransmission of special events, as well as with the reincorporation of a program for the network’s prime time that includes musical events by national and foreign artists. This new space will be made in collaboration with Radio 3, and is expected to arrive on the channel at the beginning of next year. The idea of āāthis program would be to recover the successes of RTVE formats such as Tocata or La Agencia de Oro.
In this context, La 2 will broadcast this May 31 in prime time a concert by the Pet Shop Boys, who inaugurate their European tour at the O Son Do CamiƱo Festival in Santiago de Compostela.
This new boost to musical content joins the projects of this type that public television is already betting on, such as the Benidorm Fest or the broadcast of the Latin Grammy Awards. Thus, the idea would be to continue “moving forward” in this direction, as expressed by the president, adding that, in view of the change in the forms of consumption of musical content, the intention is also to promote the production of content that is distributed in the apps and social networks of the RTVE Corporation.
Regarding the Eurovision final, which made Switzerland the winner with the proposal of Nemo in its last edition, RTVE indicates that it has been the most watched program of the year and season, with a share of 42% and almost five million viewers .
This commitment to music is also maintained on Spanish National Radio, where current music is the main component.
Regarding RTVE’s general results in the first three months of 2024, Cascajosa has assessed the quarter as positive, indicating that “all our channels and platforms remain stable and the RTVE group closes above 14%.” The audience results for the Women’s Champions League, the Queen’s Cup and the King’s Cup have also been positive.
RTVE defends the hiring of David Broncano
On this topic, Cascajosa has stated that bringing Broncano to La 1’s prime time access will mean a saving of 7%, compared to the cost of the current programming for that time slot, the series ‘4 Estrellas’. Likewise, the president has justified the decision with the need to be competitive, for which it is necessary to have an offer to match. Cascajosa claims to trust in humor and entertainment to bring content to the network that citizens enjoy.
