Impossible not to remember Sally, the inseparable companion of Lightning McQueen in the movie Cars. In the world of Disney and Pixar’s Cars, Sally Carrera is a beautiful 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera from California who got tired of living at full throttle and started over in the small town of Radiator Springs.

She works as the city attorney and her goal is to make Radiator Springs stop being a small town lost on the map. Everything changes when Lightning comes to town and Sally is determined to help him win the races.

Sally is one of the most beloved characters in Cars. That is why Porsche has wanted to pay tribute to her and a small team from Pixar Animation Studios works to make Sally in a real car.

A life-size Sally

The team working on creating a real life replica of Sally is led by Cars production designer Bob Pauley and creative director Jay Ward, Style Porsche in Weissach and Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur in Stuttgart.

The truth is that they have been working on this idea for some time, but what happened in Ukraine has been a shock to speed up the creation process.

“We wanted to help, in some way, and as a team we realized that maybe we could use what we were working on to raise money,” explains Jay Ward, creative director of franchises at Pixar Animation Studios.

“The whole project began with the premise that Sally’s character was dedicated to helping others and it seems only right that this continues 20 years later,” he adds.

Only one will be made

The team works to build a Porsche 911 identical to the one in the film, but approved for road use. Only one will be made and will be auctioned off with all proceeds going to help refugee children from Ukraine by supporting educational programs.

“The majority of those forced to flee Ukraine are women and children, including unaccompanied children separated from their parents,” explains Anne-Marie Grey, Executive Director and Director General of UNHCR USA.

“But there is reason to be hopeful with the support of companies like Porsche and Pixar Animation Studios, who have generously stepped up to help ensure their safety and security in the coming months.”

Last week, Porsche donated one million euros to provide emergency aid to people affected by the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.
